Chabad composers Sarah Dukes’ popular piano solo, “Violet Beams”, and Shoshana Michel’s “Finding the Light Within” are currently being aired on Singapore Airlines’ in-flight entertainment.
Beginning in September, music from both composers will also be played on flights of EgyptAir, the flag carrier airline of Egypt.
Both composers’ music have been featured in several documentaries produced by Jewish Educational Media, and can be heard streaming on international radio stations including Whisperings Solo Piano Radio, Calm Radio, One World Music Radio, Pandora as well as many others.
Dukes first emerged as a promising composer in 2011 with the release of her debut album of piano solos, Finding Forever, performed by Yaron Gershovsky.
In 2016, Dukes released her second solo piano album Life Sometimes which was awarded the Silver Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Music in the Global Music Awards, was ranked #17 on Zone Music Reporter’s “Top 100 Radio Airplay” chart, and was on the first-round ballot for the 59th GRAMMY Awards.
Her emotional composition “Dancing in the Dark” was amongst winners in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest in the World category in 2016. Dukes has performed for multiple Jewish women’s events including Minneapolis, MN, Missoula MT, Cleveland OH, and locally for the United Lubavitch Yeshiva’s annual Chinese Auction.
“It is amazing that people all over the globe- from America to Singapore, and all the way to Mitzrayim, are able to appreciate, and hopefully be inspired by Jewish music,” Dukes told COLlive.com. “This has been an incredible opportunity to go out and affect all four corners of the world as the Rebbe taught us- ufaratzta!”
Shoshana Michel released her piano solo album of her arrangements of Chabad nigunimin, Soul Whispers, in 2015. The following year, she debuted as a composer with her second piano solo album, Dancing on the Wind, which has been nominated for several “solo piano album of the year” awards. She is currently a finalist in the Global Peace Song Awards with two tracks from that album. Her third piano solo album, Prelude to a Dream, will be released, Iy”H, September 8th.
