Germany’s Federal Minister of Education and Research, Dr. Annette Schavan, visited the Chabad Yeshiva Gedola of Berlin and Rabbinical training seminary on Wednesday, hearing from students and teachers about the importance of the Yeshiva.
The Minister was given a tour of the Yeshiva, the first to train Rabbis in Germany after World War II, by Berlin Shliach Yehuda Teichtal and Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Uri Gamson.
The Yeshiva, which opened its doors in 1999, runs a Rabbinical Seminary to ordain community rabbis, a Beit Midrash with a full day Jewish studies program, a Torah College for university and high school students and a Torah and Chevruta joint study program which partners yeshiva students and members of the community.
The school also has a publishing Institute, research Institute and Torah Library under its auspices.
During her visit, the Education Minister heard a presentation from student Michael Axenrod, who expressed that staying at the Yeshiva changed his life and opened new horizons for him.
Rabbi Gamson then presented an overview of the 30 students studying at the various programs at the Yeshiva and rabbinical training. Following this Dr. Schavan chatted with the students, hearing about their backgrounds and goals.
The Yeshiva Gedola of Berlin is the first Yeshiva to train Rabbis in Germany after World War II. The goal of the Yeshiva is to strengthen the revival of Judaism in Germany by creating institutes of learning that will allow young people in Germany to get to know and deepen their studies in Judaism.

I was never actually inside of the yeshiva gedola in Berlin, but I visited the library and it is amazing! Great job rabbi tiechtle you will always be my favorite shliach.
Who would’ve thought that Berlin would have a Jewish community again, let alone a thriving Mayanot-like yeshiva. All I can say is that whatever they feed the shluchim there is definitely working. Two thumbs up for rabbi Gamson best rosh yeshiva ever.
