Residents across the Tri-State reported feeling shaking as an earthquake rocked the region Friday morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.
The quake was heavily felt in the Crown Heights area.
The earthquake hit at 10:23 am.
Many in Crown Heights felt the shaking in their homes, and the shaking was felt on the NY subways as well, a reader reported to COLlive.com.
The quake was felt throughout New Jersey, Connecticut and New York. In Philadelphia, residents described feeling the quake for a minute long.
“A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York. My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day,” Gov. Hochul posted on X.
Mayor Eric Adams said:
At approximately 10:23 AM, New York City felt the impact of a 4.8 magnitude earthquake. The epicenter was in Lebanon, New Jersey, about 50 miles from New York City. Our first responders are working to make sure New Yorkers are safe, and at this point, we do not have any reports of major impacts or injuries.
“I encourage all New Yorkers to check on your loved ones, and if you feel an aftershock, drop to the floor, cover your head and neck, and take cover under a solid piece of furniture, next to an interior wall, or in a doorway. So far no major life safety issues reported, no reported infrastructure issues, but we will continue our inspections of critical infrastructure.”

Can someone please explain this to me. According to whatever we have in science. How is it possible for there to be an earthquake in the middle of a tectonic region, NOT along a tectonic border or a fault line?

the reason is fracking technology that long been linked by science to the earthquakes . in fact there was one recently in other American city with a similar magnitute proved to be linked to fracking.

The NY earthquake was only 4.8. Anything between 2.5 and 5.4 is classed as a light earthquake, nothing to worry about at all, and is NOT an emergency. The use of the emergency system was unjustified, and only leads to hysteria. Taiwan was 7.7, which is almost 1000 times as bad as a 4.8. The should low-key cancel the NYS earth science regent. This has brought a tremendous amount of trauma and having to take an examine almost entirely about earthquakes will most definitely cause a large amount of mental health problems.
