With the upcoming school year only a few weeks away, teachers everywhere are setting up their classrooms and stressing over lessons plans. One thing they don’t have to worry about is their Dvar Torah curriculum, because Living with the Times is back for another successful year.
This year will be the fifth year that Living with the Times’s Dvar Torah curriculum is available for schools. It’s been five years of incorporating feedback to make the program more engaging and accessible than ever, providing two volumes of Dvar Torahs for grades 4-7, adapted from Lekutei Sichot Aleph-Daled.
One of the features that teachers like most is that the curriculum is incredibly customizable. Living with the Times provides all the “ingredients” for the lesson, and so the teacher can mix and match and “season” to their preferences. For example the teacher can incorporate background knowledge by reviewing the provided Parsha summary, they can add an engaging story, provided in the storyteller section, and if the class is sufficiently advanced, they can learn part of the sicha inside, which can be found in the sicha section. They can experiment with different ways to present the information, such as using a PowerPoint presentation complete with visuals, or introducing the recommended hands on activity. The curriculum even has review questions to help gauge how well the students understood the lesson objectives.
Teachers who used the curriculum last year can’t wait to use it again. As one mechanech said, “This Dvar Torah curriculum is a pleasure to teach! My students love the captivating stories and a clear lessons presented on beautiful slides, and most of all, they love that they are always able to go home and feel good that they had something they understood well to share at the Shabbos table.”
Special thank you to Moishe and Yardena Lipsker for making this curriculum possible.
