After a full day of learning, members of the Crown Heights Kollel found out on Wednesday they will receive a Pesach gift from a local generous donor.
Real estate mogul Shalom Ber Drizin said he will give each member at the Kollel $250 to get through the holiday.
There are approximately 130 newlyweds learning in the adult yeshiva.
“The yungeleit in Kollel bless you,” Rabbi Yosef Heller, member of the Crown Heights Bais Din and dean of the Kollel, was overheard telling Drizin at a family event Monday.
“Nu, kol hamevarech misbareich (Whoever blesses, should be blessed himself),” Drizin replied.
This charitable gift will not be Drizin’s first to the Kollel. As reported on COLlive.com, he provided hats and sirtuks whose value was estimated at $50,000 earlier this month.
Meeting this week with members of the Crown Heights Community Council Chanina Sperlin and Leibish Nash, Drizin pledged a notable sum for the community’s needy.
On the spur of the moment, he added $30,000 to the Kollel on Kingston Avenue and Union Street.
Sperlin, along with Noach Fox and Eli Slavin, were in the Kollel Wednesday and Thursday to hand out the checks.
I don’t know who you know but when I was in Kollel I certainly did not have section 8, I had to pay $800 a month (7 years ago) rent on a $275 kollel check
a Chover Kolel and can tell you the money is so appreciated you guys can argue and biker but the money helped me buy Matzoh and wine to bring to my father in law ( who is not wealthy and our food will help take off the pressure etc. )
And a special thanks to the Vaad and Sub Vaad for taking the hours of time to coordinate the checks etc. and the hats and kapotes etc…
Truly why CH is CH is because of these good people!!
Does anyone else notice what time the negative comments are posted? That tells you something about the person hiding behind the fake name they give to post their stupid comments on this forum. It’s about time we stopped judging people. It’s not our business how much money R’ Shalom Ber has, or who he gives it too. I’m sure he gives lots more money quietly that we don’t know about. The hat will not pay there rent and a kapote they cannot use for rent and the 600 NOT 700 bonus they willnot get this year because of the recession so they will end up with 500 dollars is that not fair for young couples to have some enjoyment and to make easier the month of Pesach???

its very nice that SB Drizin is giving this money, but what about the all the families in CH that are having a ahrder time buying products for pesach? and paying their rent? and paying for their kids to go to school & camp? SB you have over a billion dollars its about time you start giving to the community you live in.
