Moshe Dovid Staples, a member of the growing Chabad community in Phoenix, Arizona, passed away suddenly on Shabbos, 27 Adar II 5784.
He was 32.
“Dovid and his family became baalei teshuva when he was a young boy,” said Rabbi Mendy Deitsch, Director of Chabad of the East Valley in Chandler, Arizona.
“He went to Hebrew Academy, and when he was old enough, he went to Chanoch Lanaar Mesivta in Crown Heights,” he said.
His family could not afford the tuition when he wished to go to Yeshiva, so Dovid set up a crowdfunding campaign titled “Yeshiva Bound,” and he raised the funds.
He indeed went to learn in the Yeshivah Gedolah of Melbourne – Rabbinical College of Australia and New Zealand, where he studied and made friends in the Yeshiva and broader Chabad community.
“He had amazing years of growth in the yeshiva. He really put himself into it. He was a solid and joyous guy. He continued in the Lubavitch system,” said Rabbi Deitsch.
His passing left his family, friends, and community in complete shock. “He was an extremely sweet, caring person,” one acquaintance said. “He had the biggest heart and was always willing to help. He had a great sense of humor and was always sharing some quirky fact.”
Misaskim of Los Angeles is helping to pay for the burial. A campaign was set up to cover the complete costs. Please give generously at https://thechesedfund.com/AN5RdD/staplesfund
He is survived by his parents, Yehoshua and Ruchama Staples of Naharia, Israel, and his brother Simcha Staples of Denver, Colorado.

He was a wonderful human.
He invited me to his sukkah and I felt so welcomed by his family.
Loved to motorcycle and loved to hike! He was always learning – had his Chayenu in his hands!
He worked with me on a few real estate deals and man was he smart!
What a wonderful soul and always a smile and an invitation to learn!
