R’ Dovid haLevi ben Yehoshua Benveniste, a member of the Chabad community in the holy Israeli city of Tzfas, passed away on Sunday, 26 Adar I 5776.
He was 64 and suffered from a brief illness.
Benveniste previously lived in Los Angeles and S. Francisco, California. In Israel, he was very active in Mivtzah Tefillin helping as many Jews as he can to do a Mitzvah – some of them for the first time in their lives.
A regular reader of COLlive.com, Benveniste would leave comments wishing Mazal Tov on notices of simches, as well as news articles.
When Rabbi Moshe and Taliah Langer were appointed as new Shluchim in his former hometown of S. Francisco, Benveniste wrote to the rabbi that “I remember your first Shabbos on Earth!”
“The building next door used to be college kid dorms 25 years ago, when you were born two blocks away!” he wrote. “Lots of Yiddin around Pill Hill there, and the private high schools. Mazel Tov, Moishe!.. Strength and Blessings.”
He is survived by his children, Arnon Moshe Avraham, Yosef Yitzchok, and Chaya Mushka.
The funeral will be held on Monday in Yesod Hamaala.
Baruch dayan haemes.
I have so many great memories of having fun with David in New York City when he visited with my cousin Bill. A great light and personality. My condolences to his children.
Bde.
May his family be comforted and may his children carry pride in him and do mitzvot with love and courage in his zchut.
From his youngest brother Jack I wish him peace !!!!!😇
It is a shock for let hope that he will live in peace in the other world.
We had the Tzchut of meeting Rav Dovid in Tzfat this summer and spent precious time with him in and around Tzfat. He spoke so lovingly of his children and was so proud of them. He was loved by so many and for good reason. He had a heart of gold and gave of himself to everyone he came into contact with. A tremendous loss to all of Klal Yisroel
