Businessman and donor Dovi Lesches, whose scholarship fund enabled dozens of students to attend the Yeshiva Gedolah Rabbinical College in Miami last year, announced at the recent Friends of Lubavitch of Florida dinner that he would not only continue to sponsor student scholarships, but would double his support for the next year.
Mr. Lesches, partner of Lincoln Ventures and president of The Lesches Group, diversified real estate companies in New York City, expressed his empathy for families caught in the current economic situation and their need for scholarships. At the same time he understands and appreciates the necessity to pay teachers’ salaries on time.
“I acquired a value for education from my grandmother, who fought for her children to receive the highest level of Jewish education,” he said. “She sacrificed everyday essentials so she could enroll her children in the best schools.
“Although she had come under fire many times from community members, she fought night and day to ensure her children not only had a good education, but a great one,” said Lesches. “This is why I have chosen Yeshiva Gedolah Of Miami. It is in her memory and in memory of my grandfather that this grant has been named the ‘Moshe & Chana Leah Fund.'”
Many parents, unable to bear the financial burden of sending their children to out of town Yeshivas, expressed their gratitude to Mr. Lesches and the administration for this great opportunity.
Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Y. L. Schapiro expressed his appreciation as well. “On behalf of the recipients of Mr. Lesches’ generosity, we at the Yeshiva Gedolah are tremendously grateful,” he said. “It is inspiring to see an alumnus of our school reach out to those less fortunate and enable them to have a genuine yeshiva experience. This will help us realize our long-standing commitment to never turn away a student for lack of funds. On behalf of the entire Yeshiva faculty we wish to say ‘Thank you Dovi.’”
As in the past year, the grants will be available for qualifying students with above average grades. For more information or to apply, please visit lecfl.com.

By giving scholarships he is allowing students in undesired circumstances to have an education. This is where gvirim should be putting there money. Not just for buildings and walls, but to fill them.
