During the Kinus Hashluchim, when thousands of Shluchim and guests from around the world converge on Crown Heights, the New York Police Department is on alert.
A number of extra security measures have been taken to ensure the utmost safety of participants who are spending time at different locations in the Brooklyn neighborhood.
Numerous extra police officers have been patrolling the neighborhood on foot, and a bomb-sniffing dog made an appearance in 770’s main Shul on Eastern Parkway on Wednesday.
“We have had no specific threats,” Officer Vincent Martinos of the 71st Precinct told COLlive. “But we are taking a number of extra precautions to ensure the safety of residents and guests.”
The bomb sniffing dogs will make more random sweeps of the area during the weekend, he said.
The neighborhood has also been lit at night with bright halogen lights, and many police officers are patrolling by car as well.
