It’s a no brainier
And remember there will be no major influx in guest for a while. now Is the time to root it out.
It’s the best preventative measure we have, and God willing crown heights will suffer no more,
the elderly
And the immuno compromised will be more comfortable going outside.
Let us do it for them.

De Blasio confirmed today that testing more negatives will get Boro Park reopened:

Congrats to all those Askonim who were a step ahead and brought mass testing to Crown Heights to get our rate down. We now know you were right!!

Oh gosh. What next? How about offering hydroxychloriquine as a preventative option instead? This will just cause our community lots of problems…

Because there is not a single medical study that says that it works.

A doctor can not mass advertise putting a foreign substance in your body without a single clinical trial proving it works, when you are not sick.

Like 50+ studies that prove it works. Where are you getting your info from? I’ve seen it on Dr Zev Zelenko’s Twitter. It’s a 65year old drug already used in advance as protection from malaria. Safe for elderly, ill, pregnant, nursing and children. Please read up more. Tech is actively censuring access but the studies are still out there

Post a link of one study which is peer reviewed, meaning looked at and critiqued by other sientists, which definitively proves that it works as a preventative for coronavirus, The drug is proven not to be dangerous in general and is prescribed as a preventative for melaria, But agein because it’s used for one sickness does not mean it should be used for another, in absence of being sick a doctor can not mass perscribe or even advocate putting in foreign substances into your body as a preventative with no proof of it working. Now if a doctor says that… Read more »

Indeed, yet that is what is being done by requiring all to wear masks. Neurologists and MANY doctors are against it. There consequences to being deprived of oxygen. And there are also negative health consequences to social distancing, particularly for long periods of time.

There are only 2 possible outcomes from testing. Both are good!
1) If the results are all negative, it brings our positive rate down and keeps us open (we are only a few blocks away from Yellow Zone).
2) If the results show positives, that’s important to know too! Now those people know to isolate and prevent spread.
What am I missing?

false positives. tests are too sensitive and pick up dead virus (for up to 3 months post infection)

More testing = more government control. You give up your freedom and you will never get it back. After you lose this freedom, you lose freedom of speech, religion and thought. Ask those from the Former USSR! And what happens when they want daily tests – will that be ok?

Testing will accomplish a lot!
Reply to  Nope
October 20, 2020 11:11 pm

Possibility 1:
The tests all come back negative – then the testing accomplished keeping our community open by producing a low positivity rate.

Possibility 2:
Tests come back positive and those people know to isolate and stop the spread immediately.

Those are the only 2 possibilities testing can cause – and those are both very BIG accomplishments.

Option 3. False positives as has happened thousands of times and then what we end up in a red zone and the government as Cuomo has clearly stated has the info “block by block” yeh I’m NOT submitting to that, I believe our grandparents ran away from that kind of intrusion. Our numbers are already low if they haven’t “spiked” during tishrei we should be fine WITHOUT testing

October 21, 2020 3:04 pm

Not to say that it cannot happen, but what tells you that a positive test result is false? I hear from so many people about false positive results and I have to wonder: Is it lack of symptoms? We know that there are asymptomatic carriers who can transmit COVID, so what makes you say that there are thousands of false positives- other than wishful thinking? We identify false negatives by repeated testing and identifying symptoms / Scans /exposure etc =a clinical picture looking like COVID despite a negative test result. Can you clarify how do you distinguish a false positive… Read more »

Is this the best thing to do?
October 20, 2020 7:25 pm

Agudah lost the court case before yom tov partly because they had closed the shuls back in the beginning of covid19 before it was mandated. If we test our students regularly, when it becomes mandated we will not be able to fight it

as per DOH website, there were only 38 hospitalizations on October 16 , and only 16 hospitalizations on October 17, and less than 50 per day during the prior recent weeks. in ALL New York City (5 boros together).
Hardly a reason to test

Reply to  NYC DOH
October 20, 2020 11:18 pm

1) To know if someone has it
2) To present our numbers that we don’t have it. Let’s hope it always remains the second reason, which is as vital as the first reason and plays a direct role in keeping our community open.

As parents we should be the ones deciding.
There is no need to test unless you are having symptoms.
We parents are having lots of stress from all of this – please leavd us and our kids alone and we will decide as we see fit. We are smart enough to know if someone is symptomatic to quarantine. Stop loading us with more stress.

Can spread without symptoms
Reply to  No Way
October 20, 2020 9:32 pm

Someone can have no symptoms especially in children and they may still have the virus and be spreading it to others. Testing will catch these people without symptoms as well as those with symptoms and thus the virus spread will be stopped

Oh please. Provide proof that kids were super spreaders without symptoms. So far studies on 1000’s of school children in Europe prove the exact opposite. In fact children act like barriers to the spread. See for yourself: American Frontline Doctors second press conference in front of the Supreme Court

Look at the data in israel. Israel had a second lockdown after opening schools. Kids who dont have symptoms are shown to carry the virus. 7% of kids tested in israel were shown to have antibodies as opposed to 3% in general population. There is a point to testing kids with no symptoms when opening schools. Teachers should be tested as well. Statistics in israel show highest rates of virus are in those are 9-29. Hardly any cases in elderly. It has changed

Don't believe what the media says about Israel

Reply to  No Way
October 20, 2020 10:50 pm

There will be zero stress for you if you just sign the ###### consent form and your kid will get tested in the convenience of school and get a lollypop. It’s the painless test that barely goes into the nose (if you do it with the school). If you want to make it stressful and schlep to the doctor’s office where they might do a deeper swab, that’s on you.

When you give an inch you’ll be pushed a mile. Don’t think giving in a little now is no big deal. We should never surrender our individual right of deciding our own medical interventions, no matter how minor of a deal it seems at first. It is crossing a massive personal boundary. Setting the limit clearly and, strongly where it belongs right in the beginning, will prevent much bigger medical persecution in the end. It is off limits for politicians to meddle between patient/doctor and mandate medical decisions.

It’s a very very rare possibility. NY State’s percentage wouldn’t be around 1% now if people who previously had COVID would sometimes come back positive.

3% false positives is the accepted standard
October 20, 2020 10:34 pm

It’s a real conundrum. On one hand we want to flush it out the neighborhood and also give people who test positive an early start to beat it. But with 3% false positives being the acceptable standard for testing and also 3% positivity rate being the shut down rate, the more testing we do the more positive tests. As doctors who care about our health the choice must be to test, that’s their job and primary concern(Dr’Rosen too). If there’s a false positive they’ll just test again for clarity. Problem is for every 3 positive we need at least 101… Read more »

Again, now it’s about percentages until we get that lowered and then the politicians will move the goal post to number of cases instead of percentages. The city is not acting in good faith and have lost all credibility. We can stop engaging them and taking what they say seriously. They are loving every minute they can torment us. We can easily stop giving them that pleasure by ignoring them and carrying on as if they are irrelevant. There is nothing more they can do when we are no longer afraid and not engaging. Exactly the same as we would… Read more »

The false positive rate means the percentage of positives that are false.

I don’t know the numbers but assuming the ones above are correct that would mean 3% of the 1% positives are false

Why
October 21, 2020 1:19 am

When it comes to a blood drive, ppl will happily go and get their blood taken because they may help someone.
Wearing masks, getting tested, are measures that will Stomp out the virus. And more importantly will course our elderly much relieve. Most of us know someone personally who is staying home or has high stress level because of the virus. Theses measures will reduce their anxiety. Think of it as a way to help other ppl

Doctors in the CH community have a poor record, when it comes to treating this plague. A better guide for our rabbis would be Dr. Zelenko who has a working protocol to cure the viral infection, not, as in CH, whose doctors could not save their COVID patients and instead sent them to hospitals, where they passed on — over 70 chassidim!

honest question
October 21, 2020 9:57 am

Can someone please explain to me why listening to the doctors (/school/rabonim/city) on a smaller, reasonable thing will take away your ability to choose to disobey if they request something actually crazy? If you can disobey now, you can disobey later. Obeying now doesn’t obligate you to obey later. Perhaps the opposite is true. If you always follow their guidelines and put your foot down when something is actually wrong, then your defiance is worth something, however if you disobey all rules even when they’re reasonable, you’re just seen as an annoying achorayim and no one will take your defiance… Read more »
