This is not a pro-vax post. Neither is it an anti-vax post. This is definitely an anti-COVID post. And, more to the point, this is a very pro-life post.
At every moment, we as individuals, parents, and a society are faced with decisions involving questions of risk. Should I let my child ride a bike or not? Should high schools, colleges and even the NFL play full contact football, or should they not?
There are certain activities, that while clearly dangerous, are so fundamental to us as a culture that rather than ban the activity, we decide to mitigate the risk as much as possible. So, we tell our children to wear a helmet when riding a bike to decrease the risk of serious head injury by 90%. We may decide that the risk of full contact football is too great, so we encourage our kids to play flag football. Or, in the case of the NFL, make the rules so strict that serious injuries are dramatically decreased. In these cases, we have not entirely eliminated all risk; rather we have mitigated the risk to a level consistent with our community and societal standards.
Which takes us (as all conversations must) to COVID and Yom Tov. No-one denies that COVID is a real problem. On the other hand, no one denies that shutting our shuls and schools and banning Simchas Beis Hashoeivo is impractical and will not completely eliminate all risk anyways.
So, what do we do? Like the parent who tells her child to wear a helmet, we do what we can to mitigate risk. How? You knew this was coming; make sure you and your loved ones are vaccinated if possible. If a third vaccine dose is recommended, get it. And if it’s warranted, make sure all are aware of all legitimate treatments such as monoclonal antibodies. OR, get a COVID test.
Can’t get a vaccine or don’t want to? Wear a mask indoors and avoid tightly packed groups of people. (Especially children and young adults who are likely not vaccinated).
If you don’t feel well do not go to public gatherings, particularly indoors. If you have the authority to do so, make a policy for those who come to your shul or event and advise accordingly.
The point is, my tolerance for risk may not be yours. But don’t do nothing. COVID is unfortunately not going away anytime soon and we might as well learn to live with it.
Edward Jenner came up with the Smallpox vaccine in 1796, but Smallpox wasn’t eradicated from the world until the late 1970s. If it’s gonna be here a while, we might as well deal with it.
Ignoring COVID is not really an option. Proudly declare yourself anti-COVID and pro-LIFE.
CHAG SAMEACH
Sincerely,
Dr. Abie Gottesman
Thank you!
Very very well said. Thank you.
And I understand the main point – to be careful – and I agree Thank you But when giving advice such as this article, we have to really consider the value of each measure of ‘carefulness’, and how effective it can be vs how damaging it can be Here’s something important not to forget: There is a normal and healthy way for humans beings to operate, and for society to thrive We are looking to preserve life, not to damage… 1. Human touch is important 2. Human interaction is important 3. Big events with big gatherings are important 4. Carefree… Read more »
Are you taking the responsibility for the carelessness you are promoting?
Are you a medical doctor giving advice?
Shame on you for this totally irresponsible long form comment.
If you want to disregard health, do so on your own watch. To encourage others with your evils is a whole new level
Firstly, it clearly is pro vax and I just want to say that anyone who has not been vaxxed is not trying to kill ppl and also doesn’t want a Covid outbreak but there just isn’t enough proof that the vaccine actually helps
This is nothing new. And if you’re really pro vax, please show clear evidence that having the vaccine is actually mitigating the virus. Some of the places with the highest vaccination rates have the highest covid cases too…. So if you want to convince people, you need to bring actual proof. Also please don’t mix in the “pro life” phrase. That’s very different. Ppl who are choosing to not get the vax are not ‘not pro life’. Everyone is entitled to make their own health and medical choices and no one has the right to tell anyone what they should… Read more »
I see mention of if you’re not vaccinated wear a mask indoors. Why no mention of if you have robust antibodies?
Exactly! Why is the vaccine more protective than natural antibodies? (Putting aside the potential horrific vaccine damage it has/can cause).
My kids pediatrician(not in NY), said that antibodies aren’t proof that you can’t get COVID(and she reluctantly gave the blood test for antibodies) Well, neither is the vaccine!
Our friend is triply vaccinated, another friend doubly vaxxed, both got COVID! So why are my antibodies not recognized?
Said but sadly many will ignore you and everyone suffers
In israel the hospitals are filled with those who took 2 doses of vaccine and now have covid. Also there were deaths from covid from those who took 3 doses of vaccine too. I agree that people should wear masks and should avoid being around others if not well. But dont say it applies only to unvaccinated. This applies to vaccinated as well as unvaccinated. Vaccinated are getting sick with covid and spreading it! Also many unvaccinated have recovered from covid and should not take vaccine as they have immunity that lasts. Unlike so called immunity from covid vaccine that… Read more »

I didn’t write this, but I agree and approve of this message. I would like to add that the FLCCC does support treatment with monoclonal antibodies, especially if you are high risk and have difficulty obtaining ivermectin.
You wrote that kids are mostly unvaccinated and have to be careful.
Studies show that unvaccinated kids are more protected/less likely to suffer from covid than Vaccinated adults. Reread that – kids are more protected from covid than Vaccinated adults. So no our kids don’t need to suffer in masks.. obviously don’t hang around ppl who are unwell and don’t go anywhere if unwell but our kids can continue to enjoy life that politicians have kindly disrupted.
At one of the residences ( I know someone there), one
of the residents got sick with Covid – was sent to Urgent Care
because of profuse coughing.
THIS RESIDENT WAS VACCINATED!!!
