An evening of gratitude and recognition was held in honor of the founders and supporters of the Shluvot organization in Jerusalem, which provides services for girls who have special needs.
Shluvot was founded by Mashi Feldman (Broiner), Simi Erlich, and Hindi Schlaff while they were young teens in high school. What inspired them was their friend Riki Farkash OBM, a beloved young woman with Down syndrome who has since passed away.
The 3 realized that there was a need for programs and services for special young girls. After Farkash’s passing, the Shluvot home for girls with special needs was founded by the Farkash family to carry on her legacy and devotion to helping people with special needs.
The festive dinner event in Jerusalem was held in honor and appreciation of the founders, volunteers and supporters who help Shluvot provide services for over 100 young women and girls.
In attendance were Israel’s former Chief Rabbi Yisrael Mair Lau, Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, author and scholar Rabbi Yekusiel Farkash, head of Kashrut Lemehadrin Rabbi Yosef Efrati, Shliach Rabbi Mordechai Farkash of Bellevue, WA, Magen David Adom Chairman Rabbi Avraham Manela, and Yehuda Freudiger, who directs services for Special Needs in Jerusalem.
R’ Dudi Farkash, a brother of Riki and a businessman in Monsey, NY, thanked the supporters for their work in keeping Riki’s memory and legacy alive in the day-to-day care and love provided to the young girls at Shluvot.
Speakers praised the Shluvot organization for the work they do every day to provide care and love to girls with special needs. Riki’s Home serves 100 girls with Down syndrome, ages 18 and up, with services, Shabbatons, summer camp, activities and more.
Over 200 volunteers help out to provide services for these special girls. The home provides the highest level of care for the young women, and is the fulfillment of Riki’s dream.
