Dear readers,
I saw a child this morning 07/04/19 about 8:50 am, running through the streets of Crown Heights.
I saw him crossing Empire Blvd south, then turning right on Lefferts till Kingston, then he got into a van which probably took him to camp.
The kid was probably between 6-9 years old. He crossed 2 red lights that I saw, (without looking), one of them being Empire Blvd!
I am sharing a photo without his face, but please share this. As a parent, it was a frightening sight to see.
Bh he is safe in that van that picked him up by the Marketpace. But this is very scary.
Parents, when your child leaves alone for camp in the morning, or walks home in the afternoon, do you know what they are up to? Are they properly educated on the rules of safety?
Your truly,

I see very small children alone or with other small children very often and it always worries me. We live in a city where scary things DO happen. I don’t think it’s ok for such young kids to be out by themselves without supervision of someone older, cv there was ever an incident or emergency…just because other people do it does not mean it’s ok
How about children standing anywhere they please, in thr bus doorway, hanging over the bus driver , or bus drivers who pull illegal u turns daily in front of my house, buses who speed through 25 mph neighborhoods, fail to use turn signals, where is the outrage from mothers who place their sons on these buses??
Thank you for caring. I’m sure the parents mean well. Sometimes with younger children in the house it is hard to bring them. Perhaps someone can message the Col and offer to volunteer to help with him? The mother can follow up
Can the col help coordinate this?
I had k”ah 7 under the age of 5, and my kids were not allowed to cross themselves under the age of nine.
Why didn’t you stop him and ask him where he was going
You are 100% right & I commend you for posting. Here in Israel I watch in horror as kids step in front of cars without looking; 5 year olds who can’t see over the top of the stroller they’re pushing with a 2 year old in it crossing MAJOR roads; announcements for lost kids almost daily. And yes, I say something when I see it. 2 days ago a woman approached me with a toddler who can’t have been more than 15 months – is this your child? I watched as she approached every shopper & I said she should… Read more »
always saw babies taking care of babies there ! our last trip i saw this girl no older then 6 or 7 with 2 siblings with her one holding onto stroller the other one in , she went over to the bread machine in the bakery , and so efficiently too a loaf and slices it her self , my heart was in my mouth her fingers so nearly slices off with it .. it’s was a cute sight to begin with and then was absolutely NOT!
I have two memories. One is being taught very early, probably kindergarten or 1st grade, to look not just both ways but 3 times – where traffic is coming from in both directions and again the 1st way.
My second memory is of my brother’s friend. He was 7 years old, a sweet only child of older parents. He called home to tell his father he was ready to be taken home from the local JCC. This was on a busy corner and they lived a block away katty-coner on the same street. He ran into traffic and…
I was astonished yesterday morning as I saw this happen. This child just ran across empire Blvd without even looking on a red light!! I had to tell my kids how wrong he was and that we do not ever cross like that. A car couldn’t easily come speeding right at him. Parents EDUCATE YOUR KIDS!! Also to wear helmets, it’s so dangerous to ride a scooter or bike without one
Moshiach now!
You should visit Bnei Brak and to see how many 4-7 years old boys and girls going on the street alone and jumping to the roads and crossing red lights. Terrible! So the situation in CH much better, trust me.
