Shuls in New York will only be allowed to open for 10 people at a time until further notice, it was announced on a conference call Thursday morning.
A call was held for members of the clergy with Commissioner Marco Carrion of the Mayor’s office, as well as a lawyer for New York City, in which they outlined the updated regulations for gatherings following the coronavirus pandemic.
“The decision is that only 10 people can be in an entire building at one time,” Rabbi Chanina Sperlin of the CHJCC told COLlive. “This is regardless of any partitions, or Mechitzas, or even on different floors. Ten people in total for the entire building is all that is allowed.”
Pinny Ringel of the Mayor’s office told community leaders that these regulations are not finalized yet, and are subject to change with the executive order by Governor Andrew Cuomo in the next few days. Another conference call will take place in the next few days as well.
Rabbi Eli Cohen of the CHJCC told COLlive that according to these regulations, expected to be handed down today from the Mayor’s office, “it will be too difficult for 770 to be open on Shavuos.”
“I have spoken with the Gabboim, and they informed me that due to these regulations, 770 will remain closed for now,” Cohen said.
Last week the Mayor said that those who do not comply with these rules will be subject to the department of buildings closing their facility down.
“There were many people davening outside on Eastern Parkway today with social distancing,” Sperlin said. “It would be great if we could somehow come up with a way to have outdoor Minyanim near 770 for Aseres Hadibros as well, but it seems that most people will have to continue Davening with their block minyanim until after Shavuos.”

Why can’t you make a Goiral from all Anash and Tmimim every day and for Shovous TO ALLOW 10 PEOPLE IN FOR EVERY TFILLA
I was hoping they would have done this before the pandemic when the president said 10 are allowed to be together and yet it wasn’t done. It’s a good idea for now but everyone will want to be there. It’s going to be a stampede. Unless maybe they’ll use the women’s shul on Kingston/ union. It’s enough big for 10 men and to control the situation that no one else should be going in.
10 people should be allowed to go in to have a minyan in 770 on shavuos.
We should be doing our best to make sure this happens!
770 is bais chayenu!
If they’re just allowing ten, fine, figure out who it will be, but please let’s have a minyan in 770 on shavuos
DONT KNOW HOW THIS SONEI YISROEL IS STILL THE MAYOR
Why should 770 be any different, from any way place.
10.People can go to 770 also. I Was in 770 a lot of Times, when there were only 10 people or less. And if you are afraid that everyone will want to go in. The same goes for every place. i.e. any other shul.
770 just happens to be 10 times larger then the average shul in CH. It should be 10 pp per a specific square footage.
You could charge $1.00 a day to be entered in the Goiral The money could go to the Shul and /or Kratz
HELLO? OF COURSE IT SHOULD BE CLOSED, IT IS LIFE AND DEATH R”L.
WHAT PART OF 100,000 PLUS DEAD TO DATE IN AMERICA DONT THE GABBOIM GET??
…stop yelling (writing in ALL CAPS is yelling).
Second, it’s not 100,000 plus, but less than that.
Third, provide evidence that at this point it’s still “life and death.” People are going to stores, to parks, etc., so why should shul be different?
It’s not life and death for anyone I know. It’s life and death for a small portion of CH. That small portion should not go to 770. Simple.
I had an uncle a”h, a poshute yid. He used to wear shlinkes and a belt because he didn’t want to take any chances az zein hoizen zoln fallen arop.
Point is, take as many precautions as you want, but it doesn’t mean that everyone needs to wear shlinkes and also a belt.
My local doctor has just advised me that anyone over 65 who has not had either symptoms or a positive antibody test is not allowed to go out of his home, even with gloves mask and distancing, and even with no more than 10 people.
There’s a beachside concert going on now in Tel Aviv. Times of Israel newsite reports that it was w police authority. 5,000 people singing/dancing together. No masks ( heatwave). No social distancing.
10 people in entire bldg? Are all the upstairs offices closed?
770 should not be opened until EVERYTHING is back to normal.
Can everyone stop being smarter then rabonim and doctors.
You know that 10 people in 770 is not going to happen..
Because those same crazy people who in the beginning were trying the make daven in the front of 770 and then trying to open the doors and fighting with the police, won’t FOLLOW any rules!
The Governors arbitrary decissions are not based on science nor based on any proven medical data. He needs to be challenged in court for making Arbitrary Oppressive Decissions with no scientific data to prove its effecacy. The Governors overly restrictive criteria are not practical for almost any Shull and has no basis and thearfore, without basis, he is infringing on multiple fundamental rights in the constitution. Without proven science, he’s stepping all over our human rights and freedoms in the constitution. The Governor will only back down when he sees himself being dragged to court. This will happen, since his… Read more »
Although I am not a great fan of the mayor. It was not his decision to limit davening to ten men. It was the statewide decision of Gov Cuomo. Let’s give credit (or blame ) where it is due.
It’s De Blasio that decided that partitions don’t work
Anyways ppl were not gonna listen.so thats why he decides to let at list 10 gather…
May H bring the beis hamikdash down and from Beis Rabeinu shebebal will go there now!!!
10 people in 770 wont happen, because too many people think the rules don’t apply to them. Even if they don’t win the lottery they will try to go in anyway.
