The Kinus is on…
The organizing committee of the International Kinus Hashluchim announced that the annual convention in New York for Chabad Shluchim is on schedule to take place on 24-29 Cheshvan 5781 (November 11-16, 2020).
Organized by Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, the gathering brings together rabbis from around the globe for several days of lectures, workshops, farbrengens, a visit to the Ohel and culminating in a gala banquet with thousands of people.
The majority of the program is held or based out of the Crown Heights neighborhood, where there has recently been a resurgence of Covid-19.
Organizers said that “any in-person program that is planned will be conducted under strict guidance of medical professionals, the local government, the New York State Health Department, Dr. Eli Rosen, the Crown Heights Gedaliah Society, and the approval of our community’s Rabbonim.”
They said in an email on Tuesday that while a full schedule of workshops and general sessions is being prepared by the Kinus Vaad, they are exploring the possibility of a virtual Kinus, an in-person Kinus or a hybrid option “depending on the global health situation at that time.”
“As health and safety recommendations are shifting from day to day, we do not yet know how the Kinus will be,” they said. “An additional challenge we will face is the extremely limited capacity of the various venues in the event of an in-person Kinus, and we will have to navigate the ramifications of that as things continue to evolve.”
They advised Shluchim not to make travel plans for the Kinus at this point “until we have a better idea of the global and national health and safety status after the Yomim Tovim.”
