R’ Dovid Meyer (Danny) Fruchtman, a US War Veteran and father of Leah Wagshul of Crown Heights, passed away on Sunday, 9 Adar 5785.
He was 95.
Danny was born in January of 1930 to his parents, Morris and Ethel Fruchtman who came to the United States before WW II from Vienna, Austria.
He was born and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY with his 2 older siblings, Bernard and Eleanor Fruchtman, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his mother Ethel, and father, Morris, who passed away when Danny was only 13 and just bar mitzvah. Danny was drafted during the post World War II American Peace Keeping Occupation in Germany.
After his service in the army, he married Leah’s mother, Etta and raised her and her brother Michael in Rosedale Queens. He became a watchmaker and jeweler and opened Edelman’s Jewelers in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Everyone who came to his store were taken by his charismatic personality and kindness. He made his customers feel at ease and also made them laugh with his comedic style.
He was a kind and loving father to his family and friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter Leah Wagshul, his son Michael Fein (Floral Park), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Levaya took place on Wednesday, March 12th in Florida with military honors.
Mrs. Leah Wagshul will be sitting Shiva at 446 Kingston Avenue, Apt. D5, between Lefferts and Empire Avenues.
