DaMinyan, a Chabad Shul in Melbourne Australia that caters to young Jewish adults from all backgrounds, recently celebrated its first Hachnosas Sefer Torah ceremony.
The traditional procession started at twilight, with over 500 Jewish people joining together in unity to dance with the Sefer Torah. Fire torches were lit, and a ute pumped blaring Jewish music. The Torah was passed around to different members in the community, while being held under a portable Chuppa.
As the Torah arrived at DaMinyan Shul, the new Sefer Torah was ‘greeted’ by the old Torahs. Lively dancing and Hakofos ensued.
The members of DaMinyan then went to Kimberly Gardens Restaurant, where they enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner, a range of uplifting and entertaining speeches, and more dancing.
The night was a tremendous success, and left everyone feeling excited and inspired to increase in Torah study.
