New York City Council Member Laurie Cumbo came to an intimate fundraising event in a Crown Heights home to drum up support for her reelection bid.
Cumbo, who also represents the Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights neighborhoods, was warmly welcomed at the home of Crown Heights activist Chanina Sperlin.
Among the guests at the event were Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, and Cumbo’s City Council colleagues, David Greenfeld, who represents Boro Park, Rafael Espinal, representing Bushwick, and Steve Levin, representing Williamsburg.
The speakers highlighted Cumbo’s achievements which include working with Council member Espinal to expand the Holocaust Survivors program and to include Crown Heights.
Also cited was her work to improve the Bedford Union Armory deal to include more affordable housing, and to ensure that the pool, courts, recreational facilities and public space will be more accessible to the less wealthy members of the community.
According to reports, she will be facing fellow Democrat Ede Fox who worked as Director of Economic and Community Development for City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito. Cumbo won Fox in the 2013 elections.
Cumbo is an incumbent with name recognition, website KingsCountyPolitics.com noted. Low voter turnout may be to Cumbo’s advantage, it said.
Let’s start supporting the candidates who are line with our values – liberty, school vouchers, and so on – let’s support conservatives!
AT LEAST SHE TAKES ACTION! LAurie cumbo has been fighting to stop many developers from building HUGE manhattan buildings in Crown heights. If we dont fight , at least let her do it.
