As the community marks Yud Aleph Nissan, a day dedicated to reflection and renewed hiskashrus to the Rebbe, a pressing need is coming into focus: Ensuring that every family in Crown Heights can celebrate Pesach with dignity.
With Yom Tov just days away, Crown Heights is alive with the familiar energy of preparation. Homes are being meticulously cleaned, matzos and wine are being purchased, and mivtzoim are in full swing. Yet for hundreds of families, one overwhelming concern overshadows it all how to afford the basics for Pesach.
Rising food prices and the soaring cost of essentials have left many struggling to make ends meet. Hardworking families, single mothers, the elderly, widows, orphans, and those facing illness are finding it increasingly difficult to provide even the most basic Yom Tov needs.
This year, more than 600 families have turned to Chevras Simchas Shabbos V’Yom Tov (CSSY) for help.
Established over 45 years ago at the Rebbe’s request, CSSY was founded to ensure that families in Crown Heights could celebrate Shabbos and Yom Tov with dignity. Today, hundreds of families receive much needed assistance every Shabbos and Yom Tov.
“These are not strangers,” said Benjy Stock. “They are your friends, your neighbors, your relatives people who work hard but simply cannot keep up with the rising costs of living.”
Many who require assistance are too embarrassed to ask. They may be sitting next to you in shul, living down the block, or raising children alongside yours. Despite their efforts, the cost of matzah, wine, and other Pesach necessities feels out of reach.
“The mitzvah of Mo’os Chittim is, of course, one of the highest forms of tzedakah, and it will stand you in good stead,” the Rebbe taught.
On this meaningful day of Yud Aleph Nissan, community members are being urged to answer that call by supporting CSSY’s Maos Chittim campaign.
A donation today can directly provide a family with the food and necessities they need for Yom Tov.
