This Wednesday, January 22nd/25 Teves the Crown Heights community will be having its largest job fair to date. Registration is free and open to all — women 6-8 pm and men 8-10 pm, and it will be hosted in the Jewish Children’s Museum.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for people in the community,” said Rabbi Yehoshua Werde, Director of the event. “We’re seeing an unprecedented amount of interest from employers and job seekers alike. This event will be the largest initiative of this sort Crown Heights has ever had by far. The number of employers, the amount of offerings, and the diversity of positions offered is much higher than has ever been seen at a job fair in Crown Heights in the past. Instead of the usual 10 or 12 employers, this fair will feature hiring managers from 25 employers offering nearly 70 positions.
At the event, there will also be career counseling, resume assistance, and actual job placement. And, even if you don’t get a job on the spot that very day, Rabbi Werde clarifies that the organizers will follow up with candidates to further help them with placement after the event as well.
Job counselor, Chaim Feldman says that this event will be unlike any other. “A lot of times when you go to a job fair, the employers are there to hire for specific positions,” he explained. “At this event, the atmosphere is different, because there will be a wide variety of employers that are home-grown companies looking for talented people of all stripes from the community to join their staff.
“[The hiring managers] want to meet job seekers to talk to them about their skills, career goals, and particular interests, and place them in positions where they are most likely to succeed,” Feldman continued. “Some employers are even willing to create job positions tailored to the skill-set of the job seeker, provided he or she possess unique qualities or qualifications that will bring value to the company.
“That’s why this job fair is such an amazing opportunity, particularly for those at the early stages of their careers. There will be so many hiring managers in one place. Any job seeker who attends this event and is willing to show up looking presentable, put their best foot forward, and introduce themselves is bound to find something that’s right for them.”
