An advertising campaign in support of Senator Jesse Hamilton and signed by a group of Crown Heights residents has been distributed in the Crown Heights community this week.
“Sen. Hamilton has been strong supporter of Israel, and made headlines in 2015 when he was the only Crown Heights elected official to oppose the Iran nuclear deal,” said Yaacov Behrman, founder of the Jewish Future Alliance and a Jewish community activist in Crown Heights.
Residents of Crown Heights received a mailer pointing out Sen. Hamilton’s longtime friendship with the Lubavitch community, his support for tax credits for Yeshiva tuition and his vocal opposition to the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS).
Kings County Politics reported in July that Hamilton’s New York Times-endorsed opponent Zellnor Myrie declined to take a position on BDS, the controversial Anti-Israeli movement, or on tax credits for Yeshiva tuition.
Sen. Hamilton is endorsed by Borough President Eric Adams and Councilman Kalman Yeger.
The Hamilton mailer also lists some 30 members of the Crown Heights Jewish community who endorsed Sen. Hamilton.
These include Shmaya Balberg, Yaacov Behrman, Menachem Benchemon, Feivel Caplan, Micky Ettelson, Mendy Fox, Avraham Green, Devorah Halberstam, Rabbi Shea Hecht, Shlomie Hecht, Yossi Hershkop, Josef Junik, Shmuel Kazen, Chaim Kohn, Avi Leshes, Mordechai Lightstone, Chana Lipkind, Reuven Lipkind, Mendel Lipsker, Mendy Margolin, Yankee Pearson, Sima Prus, Yosi Prus, Menachem Reich, Binyomin Rosenberger, Sara Chana Silverstein, Heshke Skoblo, Rayi Stern, Mendy Weisz, Shmuly Wolff, and Moshe Nisan Wolovovsky.
The election will take place on Thursday, Sept 13th, the day after Tzom gedaliah.
1) Voting Against Iran Deal ???- NYS Sen Jesse Hamilton is not a member of the US Congress (federal) so he did not vote on the Iran deal. He was against it which is nice, but it counts about as much as the hot dog man on the corner. This is a Jewish ego issue, that should be appreciated, but was a political stunt. 2) Crime ? – Sen Hamilton was behind recent “Raise the Age” law in NY which now raised the age of criminal responsibility to 18 for misdemeanor crimes. So if your kid gets punched in the… Read more »
Come to the office, get on the mailing list. Go to an event. Do you need help with a State Agency, walk in and discuss your issue with a Community Liaison. Ask and you shall receive.
The poster should state that he has always a Friend of the “Crown Heights Community” (not Lubavitch Community).
That’s how the Rebbe wanted.
#14 is spot on. You can be a Trump supporter while also supporting a decent guy like Jesse who really cares for our community and doesn’t pretend that we don’t exist.
Very nice that he talks about doing for “the community.” What is he going to do for ME?
There are many in our community who support Trump for some of the specific things hes done for our community. Jesse Hamilton is a NYS Senator and the laws he passes affects NYS so his views on Trump as far as our community are not the issue. As far as the scope of a NYS Senator, on an everyday basis, Jesse’s office is open and available to help all. They have a housing advocate there several times a week and a Jewish liaison but the entire staff is amazing and serves ALL people who walk in the door. If someone… Read more »
He looks like a candidate that supports Yiddens so that is worthwhile. Still, #1, no need to disparage views that you disagree with. NYT is here to stay so rather than wishful thinking, use your energy wisely.
If you want to know what Jesse Hamilton has done for us Search on Col for him and. Read what he has done!
Hard to get something done when no one votes. Jesse stood with the community! We need to vote him in!!!
Need a voter registration drive.
Also, great that he supports credit for school tuition, but let’s see someone get something done here. Politics is all yap yap yap, all talk, no action. HaMayseh hu haikkar
This is a primary election to see which Democrat will run against an unnamed Republican in November for State Senate.
Hamilton is the incumbent. While all Democrats are anti-Trump, Hamilton sometimes votes more centrist — centrist Democrat. His opponent, Zellnor Myrie, is a far, far left “progressive,” trying to ride the “Bernie Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez” tide to making our state even more socialist than it already is.
And I’d go further. They’re saying that Hamilton is a friend of ours? At best, that means that he’s made the appropriate noises. Tax credits for Yeshiva tuition haven’t happened, for example. Contrast with President Trump, who’s gotten actual things done for us (freeing Sholom Mordechai, recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and cutting off funds to the Palestinians, etc.) and for the country (cutting regulations and taxes, etc.). Yet every mailer I get from Hamilton’s campaign is about how he’s going to stand up to Trump, fight against him, etc. In short, then, our “leaders” are recommending that we vote… Read more »
I want to vote for Mr Hamilton
1, Is this a primary or the actual election ?
2. Do you have to be a registered voter to vote in this primary ?
3, Is Mr Hamilton a Republican or a Democrat if we are not yet registered ?
4. WHY has there never been a Voter Registration drive here (including girls & bochurim) – NUMBERS are what win elections, no ?
5, Good Luck Jesse !!
Just as Cuomo & Nixon are, Hamilton is running against President Trump. Don’t need that.
he is not just a nother dispenser of free things he hase a real moral code and frequntly finds himselfe being atacked by the highrer ups to toe the party line
I am happy that activists are educating people in our community about who is protecting our interests. Many people don’t vote bec they don’t know enough about the candidates’ views.
PPS not soon enough
BS”D PS the ny times will soon follow the daily news down the drain
BS”D If The NY Times endorsed his opponent that alone tells one all you need to know to support Mr. Hamilton
