Shmira of Crown Heights introduced two new marked vehicles to their fleet at a Wednesday night unveiling and ribbon-cutting event.
The event was attended by members of the community, local leaders, and representatives of the NYPD.
The marked vehicles will provide additional highly visible safety patrols in Crown Heights. It’s been long proven that the best way to deal with crime is to prevent it. The cars patrolling at night with flashing lights and reflective insignia serve as a deterrent to prevent crime. In addition, the patrols provide comfort to the community, knowing that someone is watching, cares, and is available to assist in emergencies. The new vehicles will be equipped with specialty tools to help Shmira respond to emergencies more quickly and efficiently.
Coordinator of Crown Heights Shmira, Yanky Prager, spoke about the history of the community and related the story that led to the creation of Shmira over fifty years ago. He thanked the NYPD for their excellent work and willingness to work and collaborate with Shmira to fight crime. He made a special mention of the NYPD’s recent arrests, including arresting a perpetrator involved in the knifepoint robbery of a 13-year-old boy in February.
Eli Cohen, executive director of the CHJCC, praised and thanked the organization’s growth, commitment, and partnership with the NYPD for helping keep our community a safe place to live.
Prager then invited the Executive Officer of the 71st Precinct, Captain Desaro, and Community Affairs Sergeant Mike Baratta to cut the ribbon and unveil the new vehicles.
In the spirit of Hakhel, Shmira members and vehicles from other communities joined the event to show unity and support.
