In the lead-up to an upcoming Areivim USA membership drive in Crown Heights, the Beis Din has released a letter of support for the Areivim program.
A free translation of the letter reads “we are aware of the Areivim program that supports orphans and widows in an honorable way. “Yasher Koach” to the organizers and all those that participate.”
The letter is signed by both members of the Beis Din Rabbi Avrohom Osdaba and Rabbi Yosef Braun.
In wake of the recent tragedies, Areivim is doubling its efforts to register new members from Crown Heights. Areivim will be holding a public presentation with its director Rabbi Yosef Menahem Fishman.
The presentation followed by Q&A will take place 8:30 pm Sunday night 7 Tishrei, Oct 2nd, at Anshei Lubavich 578 Albany Ave. Between Midwood and Rutland Rd.
Men and women invited
The event will also be broadcast live on COLlive.com.

I’m Not going to argue with rabbis but I will say that joining areivim is probably not Sufficient and I would not bank on it as security in the event of a tragedy. I wouldn’t see it as a means of absolving me of my achrayis to my family. If you do go to the presentation ask who’s their reinsurer, and how much they are GUARANTEEING per death etc. It might be a good option for someone who can’t afford to buy life insurance or is uninsurable but today for most people It’s fairly affordable and not that difficult to… Read more »
Areivim does not claim to replace life insurance. In fact they encourage people to get life insurance.
Only Hashem can give guarantees. No one guarantees anything. You don’t have a guarantee that Hatzalah will make it in time yet you still do your Hashtadlus.
True, but if you’re gonna read the fine print, You will see that see that “coverage” Is quite limited, It’s similar to a health share program, Which is good until there is chas veshalom A major disaster and then they can no longer pay out.
Obviously nothing is guaranteed but we are still required to make a concrete vessel within the laws of nature.
Where does it say here about life insurance? I see a program that helps orphans and widows in an organized way. Sounds good to me! What other option do you suggest?!
The point of life insurance is that one’s family does not need to become a tzedakah case, Nobody plans on dying, However it is important that each man takes responsibility for his household that if C”v Something does happen you can be guaranteed that their financial future will be somewhat stable. Arievim, From what I understand Offers Only about a $100,000 per child and most of the money is only the least player wedding ( My numbers maybe slightly off) Regular life insurance for a 35 or even 40 year term is very affordable especially for a young couple. Even… Read more »
It is NOT designed to replace life insurance. They clearly write that. They encourage their members to get life insurance.
However not everyone is eligible for life insurance and not everyone can afford life insurance. And not everyone is 35-40 like you insist.
What should someone 45 years old with a history of kidney stones do?
I have been an Areivim member for many years. There is a very organized system I place. Every time there is a tragedy Areivim collects $28 a month until the amount for that family is needed. They write the location of the family and the Rav who is overseeing the collection.
Even if you have life insurance (which Areivim does encourage) it is still a beautiful way to give Tzedakah.
And if for some reason it is difficult for you to get life insurance (due to life circumstances etc.) I really encourage Areivim.
