The Neshamos organization will be hosting an event titled “What do we do now?” on Monday, February 14, 8:15 PM at the Ohoeli Torah Ballroom in Crown Heights.
“Now is the time to show up for our victims, to lend your support and to raise awareness so that we can cause vital and significant change for our community,” organizers say.
The evening will commence with Rabbi Yosef Braun, member of the Crown Heights Beis Din, who will give halachic insight in regards to this matter.
Following that, Dr. Akiva Pearlman, PhD, LCSW, will aim to educate the crowd about the implications of abuse. This type of trauma has neurological ramifications, as well as physical and emotional effects. From his professional and experiential standpoint, he hopes to empower the audience with tools and knowledge to arm themselves in facing this matter.
Other speakers will share their stories with us as well.

The event is open to the public.

To the event planners, coordinators, and attendees, you did an incredible thing. Tonights event was incredibly well done. It was amazing to see who came out to show support and to share in awareness and education. Tonight, my community planned to join together. Join to stand with our survivors. To stand with me. To stand with my brothers and sisters. To anyone impacted by sexual abuse. Unfortunately, it’s more than you’ll ever know. So we planned. We prepare, we advertised. And yet, when the time came, there was silence. Half of the chairs were empty. Flyers being ripped down. “It’s… Read more »

An event and organization like Neshomos are so crucial to our community, especially, since this topic is so taboo and stigmatized in our community. It’s about time we make conversations about this topic normal.
I would love to see many more in the future.
Thank you to all who are bringing awareness of abuse.
Please continue to speak about ALL types of abuse.
These topics are so important. ALL abuse should be spoken about. A lot of education is needed in these areas as well as more community support .
