Kingston is a bustling avenue which plays host to many scenes. Cow milking isn’t usually one of them.
On Sunday, October 6 from 12-5 pm, the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights, on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue, will be the venue for the age-old method of obtaining milk.
It will be part of an interactive program to educate families about kosher in a day of tasting, exploring, learning, and a whole lot of fun.
There will be a live honey-bee show for children to get a chance to view the bees up-close and dress up in the beekeeper’s suit and gear. ‘Joy of Kosher’ Magazine will be presenting a live cooking demo.
And that’s just the beginning.
There will be special workshops, including demonstrations on the laws of kosher, the foundations of maintaining a kosher kitchen, what to do when one makes a mistake, and much more.
Brigitte Mizrahi of the Natural & Kosher Cheese company, the main sponsor of this year’s event, will have a team present an interactive cheese-making show.
“Kosher Day is a time for fun and food,” Mizrahi says. “Everybody has a great time, and gets to go home with something. Everyone in our company dedicates themselves and their families to the event.”
Entrance is $5 a person and includes all of the above – free for children under two. The first 100 attendees will receive a special gift bag filled with all sorts of goodies. All visitors will be entered into a raffle for two tickets to Israel.
“We are proud to help this exciting and meaningful event,” said Mica Soffer, CEO and director of COLlive.com – Community News Service, a co-sponsor of Kosher Day 2013. “It gives a whole new meaning to the Kashrus Campaign the Rebbe launched in 5735.”
There will be food tasting from over 20 companies and the New York Police Department will offer rock climbing. Children’s favorite performer Uncle Moishy will sing as well.
The Entrance – check in is on Union Street and Kingston Ave. Kingston will be closed from President St. to Eastern Parkway and Eastern Parkway service road will be closed between Brooklyn and Albany Avenues.
