1500 employees of Barzilai Hospital in the city of Ashkelon in Israel, along with the Ashkelon Mayor, stood up and cheered for the couple Lerer. The reason: their incredible hospitality.
The couple, R’ Avraham and Ricky Lerer, of Ashkelon, Israel, were surprised last night during the annual event of Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.
The Lerers were invited to the elegant event, held in a prestigious area near Ashkelon, as guests of the medical center’s director, Dr. Hezi Levy. Little did they know, the event was an evening of recognition to celebrate their work caring for the families of patients who come on weekends or for childbirth in Barzilai.
The Lerer’s hospitality is well known in the city of Ashkelon and surrounding areas..
For the past ten years, every family that keeps Shabbat, and is forced to spend Shabbat at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, are invited to take advantage of the closeness of the Lerer family home to the medical center, and can spend Shabbat in their home.
For years, each Shabbat up to 40 people have joined the Lerer’s table.
At the event, the Brazilai management thanked them for their selfless work.
“The Lerer family, Avrami, Ricky and their children, host, feed and offer a place to sleep every weekend to many patients’ families in the medical center, and do it all with modesty and joy. The home of Chesed they have established, is a righteous act, and for that they deserve every blessing and honor,” said Dr. Hezi Levy.
