One month into marriage, Rabbi Ariel Margulies was suffering from depression and anxiety. Today, he and his wife Chana have built a beautiful, strong marriage and authored a book together called, “Thank You For Being You.” They share insights into their raw and honest soul trek.

I found this really great, lots to unpack, I came away with many practical and philosophical take-always. Chana’s emunah is exceptionally strong which is beautiful to see.
One point I wonder about is the notion of not wanting to be on medication or only for a limited amount of time. I’m not sure this is a viable option, many many people need to be on medication for life, simply to function. I wouldn’t want them to feel less than due to this. Perhaps there are differing degrees of illnesses and also different types.
True. However medication is often given and can be a way to cover up dealing with the real issues / trauma that are causing symptoms of mental illness. Not to say medication is bad c”v, super helpful and needed in many cases. Just saying often is used to mask other big issues. The body keeps the score has a great chapter which addresses how prevalent medication is, even in unhelpful situations (I.e. given to young kids with severe trauma who are in the foster care system…) I guess the point Ariel is bringing out is that sometimes medication isn’t necessary… Read more »
