Over the past 24 hours we have become aware of multiple new cases of COVID here in Crown Heights, both in residents and those from out of town. This represents for the first time since Purim a very worrisome surge in new cases. It is critical that those at risk for serious illness remain protected.
It is time to restart outdoor and porch minyanim, to the extent feasible. Particularly for those above age 60 or with underlying health issues (including obesity).
Indoor shuls should consider additional minyanim to allow for increased distancing, and everyone should be wearing masks.
Those above age 60 or with underlying health issues – please avoid crowded places, especially indoors. In addition, as beautiful as hachnosas orchim is, for your own safety please consider not hosting those who attend crowded indoor places, such as 770.
Those who planned to visit Crown Heights in the upcoming weeks: Please consider postponing your plans for the time being.
If anyone has any COVID-like symptoms, STAY HOME. Arrange to get tested. Follow guidelines for isolation and quarantine (which mean the same thing but refer to different scenarios), detailed as follows:
If you have covid, or suspect you have covid, you must isolate and keep yourself separate from other people. Isolation lasts until the following 2 conditions are both met. 1) 10 days pass from symptom onset (or positive test, whichever comes first), AND 2) One is feeling better, and is without fever, for a full 24 hours. If you suspect you have covid but have two negative tests, you may discontinue isolation, unless told otherwise by your doctor.
Someone with covid or suspected covid is considered contagious starting 48 hours prior to their beginning of symptoms (or positive test, whichever is first), and until their isolation is over.
If anyone is in close contact with someone who is considered contagious according to the above criteria, they need to quarantine. (Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for 10 minutes, regardless of mask use.) Quarantine means to be kept separate from other people, and lasts for 14 days from the last point of close contact with the contagious person. Testing negative does not allow one to discontinue quarantine. If one were to test positive while in quarantine, they would follow isolation guidelines above.
– The Gedaliah Society, in conjunction with Dr. Rosen
Mobbed with NO masks – these people are not listening to the Rabonim or the Doctors !
Anarchy. Poor Crown Heights …
I see a lot of people not wearing masks in Shul or when they go in to the groceries, and whyare so many Borchim coming in from other cities I read that 2 bochim came in from Isreal and they had covid19 why are they letting these people in
They keep mentioning 770 but how is that different than all the schools that are open? Kids are kids, they play and eat together and are not careful about higiene, they come home every day… Whatever partitions etc they officially put up is a joke and does not work. Ask your son..
Please inform youself, while there is a risk, kids are much LESS likely to be carriers and spread the virus.
If you or someone in your family is at risk, don’t allow kids to visit.
Especially those under 10.
1- why this: Testing negative does not allow one to discontinue quarantine.
2- what about dr zelenkos medication? Is it being offered in ch? I have yet to hear anyone that does not benefit from it. Why isn’t it being spoken about?
1 – Because it takes time after exposure until a person is infected and produces enough of the virus to be detectable in tests.
2 – Because scientific studies have shown that hydroxychloroquine is not effective against coronavirus.
reply to 2. a. the zelenko protocol is not just hydroxychloroquine
b. the studies that showed that were flawed
c. there were other studies showing that it worked
d. the liberal media and the like have deliberate silenced anyone including many many medical professionals who support the zelenko protocol for political purposes.
so yes, why is the zelenko protocol not being offered in crown heights?
I know that for a fact.
50 scientific studies prove hydroxychloriquine does work. Only one study that compared two groups of young healthy people who got covid said it made no difference. Not that it didn’t work. Just that control group saw the same good results regardless if they took the med or not. Well duh they were at low risk of death to begin with. See Dr
James Todaro’s Twitter for all the data. He did a great job compiling the studies and science.
“2 – Because scientific studies have shown that hydroxychloroquine is not effective against coronavirus.”
That is just not true. Please stop telling lies.
Those “scientific studies” have been proven to be scams.
Dr. Zelenko’s protocol saved the life of this 82 year-old asthmatic. Current studies of the hydroxychloroqine, Azithromycin and zinc cocktail show it to be very effective when taken in a timely manner. HCQ is also used as a preventative. I had no side effects whatsoever when I took it.
There should be a fund that Goyim respectfully should do a temperature check & hand out masks Shabbos, Yom Tov, & weekdays. In all entry door ways to 770, men & women. That means if their are 10 doors going in to 770, 10 Goyim should be hired. Etc….its that simple.
CLOSE 770….CLOSE THE SHULS
If it were medically proven science, the world over would have the same distancing and quarantine rules. In Israel, it’s within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes. Does the virus spread quicker in NY?
…to the people that were in charge of bringing the bochurim to us.
Blood is on their hands
which blood? who do you know that got seriously sick recently? people tested positive with mild or no symptoms. thats it. we’re being cautious as we should be, but think carefully before you make that kind of accusation
I read on collive that 2 people that came from Isreal had covid 19 and there are a lot of people in ch that dont wear masks or they dont practice social distancing
Where there will be outdoor minyanim RH?
Bais Rivka and just about every few blocks
But it would be nice to have a list.
If the cases are surging like the Gedalia society sqys they are, why dont they post a daily tracker, thats a sure way to get people to realize the danger(just like the jhons Hopkins tracker).. unless its just a couple of cases, and we are worried for “just in case” in which case its just the continues fearmongering.. whats the hard to post data, WE the residents submitted it, its only right we get to see the entire picture and let us as grown adults, make our own Educated decision
Since when do doctors write or create Hallachic edicts? Hashem gave them the power to heal, and it’s their job to do that as best as possible. If doctors feel that people should change their ways or suspend Halacha, that is (maybe!) something that can suggest to an individual patient — and not to a Klal as a whole. If a Halacha needs to be modified or suspended for an entire community, that is the Rov’s job — not a self-creating and self-appointee committee. Never in Judaism history was Halachic edicts written by a set of doctors. It should be… Read more »
Doctors have the Hallachik power to suspend Hallacha.
Who decides if someone fast of Yom Kippur or not? A Doctor.
Unfortunately the doctors are not being allowed to voice their own independent medical opinion bc they are being threatened with fines or losing their license by the government.
“Doctors have the Hallachik power to suspend Hallacha.”
No, they do NOT.
“Who decides if someone fast of Yom Kippur or not? A Doctor.”
Chas vesholom. ONLY a rov can make such a decision, after speaking to the doctor. A doctor on his own has NO authority to pasken a shayla.
The Rabonim have said numerous times to wear a mask and social distance. When you choose to ignore even the Rabonim who are you going to listen to? And as far as doctors writing Halacha, we listen to law that the Rambam wrote so why not respect a doctor when it comes to a Halacha and your health?
When not wearing a mask or social distancing you are putting others lives at risk. Put the mask on, social distance, quarantine if you come in from out of state, get a test and do the right thing.
Can one wear a mask on shabbos? Never got a clear answer on that.
Rabonim said yes MULTIPLE times!
Which rabbonim and where? Please source.
Stop telling us what to do.
Let’s get life back to normal.
No masks needed. They do absolutely nothing.
We’d love to get back to normal.
It’s not possible right now for things to be fully “normal”.
Time to accept reality and do your best to deal with it.
That includes following MEDICAL GUIDELINES from medical professionals who know more than you do.
We all want normal. Please help us get there.
Still no guts to say guests stay home. stay away. Don’t come to ch. They keep saying plz consider…. When are schools get shut what will we say? Let’s fight for our kids by not allowing anyone from outside of CH here. Don’t try and blame 770 or somthing / someone else. Who ever keeps trying to be large and in charge should just say what most of CH keeps saying. Stay home dont come u are not welcome. Take u and ur simchas elsewhere. Bc the only ones who will be punished is the kids, the adults will continue… Read more »
Why can’t people just comply what’s wrong with CHers. Where I live, ppl listen!
if I feel sick on Sunday and test positive on Wednesday, I isolate till the following Wednesday? Only if I am feeling well? And if my symptoms come back Tuesday? Because covid does that from personal experience. When do I count from? I was told 10 days from symptoms doesnt matter if you still feel sick 2 weeks later. Please advise. Thanks
You count from Sunday. But if you still feel sick you need to continue to isolate.
I read there were approx 5 cases confirmed in the world where people had corona twice. And they didnt get it 6 months apart, it was less than that. So for those of us in crown heights who had corona and survived, can we daven in a shul without a mask? I think 5 cases worldwide is a risk im willing to take.
Even if you don’t suffer symptoms again, you may still be carrying it and can pass it to someone who is high risk. And you wouldn’t even know because you wouldn’t get tested if you’re feeling fine.
That is one of the most widespread claims that is being used to justify this harassment. Please can you name which scientific study proves that asymptomatic people spread the virus? Not that they can theoretically but that they actually did. Yet to see…
They were proven to be reinfection beyond doubt bc they had 2 different strains of the virus. Just bc it hasn’t been proven locally to that extent doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.
Yes!
Masks do nothing with regards to the virus. It’s like keeping out mosquitoes with a chain link fence. Remember living life is full of risks but not living life is much worse… So do as you think and enjoy your time!
Oh and you are not being selfish or killing ppl regardless of those that want to shame you.
It was brought home to him by people in Crown Heights who were not careful. He got the virus and passed away.
I’m sorry for your loss.
There is no way to know how he caught it.
It could have come from a shopping bag that was dropped off by a fully masked person who was social distancing carefully. Or a delivery box. Or the bottom of someone’s shoes. Or through a breeze in the window…
Is that considered safe for Rosh Hashanah?
1.Considering %100 in our community everyone already got infected in Adar/Nisan any data that reinfection is dangerous or leading to any complications (hospitalization) ? Didn’t hear anything about it yet. Testing positive is not the same as getting sick. 2. In neighboring Jewish communities like Williamsburg, BP every one socializing without any social distance/masks no one getting sick either. 3. Even governments regulations in NYC ruling back, businesses open. 4. Masks never stop spreading but claim to slow down only. 5. Even most hard actions like strict quarantine never stopped spreading of the virus. 6. We need to work and… Read more »
How many cases is “multiple” cases?
How many of these multiple cases are serious? Any hospitalizations?
How many of these new cases are reinfections?
Does the public not deserve to have this information?
It’s already been assessed
There have been more than one case of reinfection in Crown Heights and the one I know of personally was contagious and passed to other people in the same place. people congregating for long periods in close quarters for yom Tov davening could lead to communal outbreaks. There appear to be different strains coming up.
I know of a few cases just among my immediate friends. It is very scary. People need to be careful and extremely vigilant now or we will have schools closed for months and things shutdown…I am not even talking about serious illnesses and deaths
How many more neshamos do we have to lose before we learn the lessons from after Pesach.
Wearing masks and social distancing is real and it’s serious. Just ask those in ICU’s or the relatives of those now on ventilators! Wake up my friends. You are killing yourselves and those around you. It’s deadly serious.
Nobody has to agree on politics, or even on whether corona is fact or fiction. There mere thought that not following guidelines COULD POSSIBLY risk human life should be enough–what happened to the idea that pikuach nefesh comes above all else?
As a healthcare worker who has watched people die of corona for the past several months, these comments anger me.
But as a Jew who was raised to believe in the sanctity of life, I am simply ashamed.
Everything you said is exactly how I feel. Thank you for your service. I am mortified to be a part of a community that condones and even encourages this behavior.
I guess you would be less mortified in North Korea where everyone always does as their told without any questions? There are dozens if not hundreds of doctors who disagree about the guidelines that make very little scientific sense and are NOT effective.
The Rebbe told us to follow the doctors…especially our doctor who is the rofeh yedid for Crown Heights and for Lubavitchers globally. What is your problem? Go live elsewhere with your attitude. I guess you are an expert on all things
Indefinite lockdowns for everyone and constant mask wearing also severely harms public health especially to those that are at no risk from complications of this virus… Please don’t disregard the true serious fallout of these indiscriminating guidelines to them as well…
No one said indefinite lockdown. WEAR A MASK, SOCIAL DISTANCE, NO GROUPS INSIDE…Protect yourself and protect other people. You are like the snake that enticed Chava to eat from eitz hadaas – exaggerating the protocols so that people will not keep them. Shame on you
Do you drive a car? Do you know that you could possibly kill someone by mistake? Let’s ban all cars. Do you go grocery shopping? Do you know that you could possibly infect yourself with covid and die? Let’s ban all food sales. How about forced quarantine/contact tracing for everyone who suffers from the flu, AIDS or antibiotic resistant infection etc…. Bc it may possibly kill someone with a compromised immune system. Get the drift? See how far this can stretch? Until you have absolutely no personal freedom to be allowed to think and choose what happens to you… It’s… Read more »
Perhaps before bringing AIDS and the flu into this, one might realize that BH those are TREATABLE (not curable, but treatable). Contrary to social media folklore, Covid treatment is all guessing and luck.
And extensive testing has PROVEN that no harm is done to the lungs from mask use.
But again, clearly your “freedom” is more important than education and the halachic stance that risking human life is of great concern to modern poskim. I certainly have no hope of changing your mind.
And you have no hope of changing mine.
thank you for your service . and thank you for your wise words.
It’s been 10 days with significant uptick in other Frum communities. Please post update #43.
