“My wife is suffering from postpartum depression, we really can’t afford the therapy that she so desperately needs, can you help cover a few appointments? Would you send someone to care for the baby while I go to work?”
“A young mother just had her fifth child and needs to go to a Kimperturin home.”
“My spouse has Dementia can we have a volunteer for an hour or 2 a day so I can leave the house to daven, shop or go to my appointments.”
These are just some of the calls the board at Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Crown Heights Bikur Cholim responds to every day. With a network of dedicated and selfless volunteers of all ages, they provide all kinds of assistance and ongoing support to over 100 families and many individuals each year.
When the call comes in, the team at Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Crown Heights Bikur Cholim springs into action, providing financial assistance for copays and other expenses, or guidance to medical resources. Paying for household help where it’s needed, providing rides to and from doctor’s offices, or hospitals, and assembling gift, or toy packages to brighten the day of a child burdened by their own ill health or that of a family member.
In addition, their volunteers cook and deliver dozens of meals a week for families dealing with illness, accompany patients to appointments and chaperone them home after procedures. They tailor their assistance to each family’s specific needs. They visit, or care for children with a family member who is unwell, and offer respite for those sitting by their loved one’s bedside. They often even go beyond their initial request, taking kids on trips, researching additional medical resources and providing an extended level of support to the patient and their families.
Whether a family is struck by sudden, or chronic illness or injury, whether a patient has a supportive family, or is on their own, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights is there for them, with discretion and sensitivity, for as long as needed.
In the year 5748-1988, it was clear the Rebbe found it worthy for Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights to carry the name of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka. Though carefully discreet, the Rebbetzin’s care for each individual was something all those who were zoche to have known her spoke about after her passing.
Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Bikur Cholim has set a goal to raise $75,000 towards their annual budget in the coming weeks between the Rebbetzin’s yahrtzeit on Chof Beis Shvat and her birthday on Chof Hey Adar.
Our community needs our help, please partner with us generously so we can respond in even greater measure to each individual’s needs.
