On Sunday, November 19th, Chabad of Central Massachusetts welcomed Congressman Jim McGovern as the distinguished speaker for the inaugural event in their breakfast speaker series, Pinnacle Perspectives. The event provided an insightful update on the current conflict in the Middle East and engaged participants in a thought-provoking discussion.
Congressman McGovern, a longstanding friend of Central Mass Chabad for nearly 40 years, shared valuable perspectives on the Middle East situation. Following his update, participants respectfully posed challenging questions regarding his voting record for Israel, reflecting the community’s keen interest in matters of international significance.
The Congressman, known for his commitment to open dialogue, addressed the tough questions with candor and transparency, fostering a constructive exchange of ideas.
Congressman McGovern recounted a charming personal story from his early days as a newly elected congressman. Invited by Rabbi Hershel Fogelman for the Grand Menorah lighting, the Congressman humorously recalled informing the rabbi of his recent bout with chicken pox. Rabbi Fogelman, in true Chabad spirit, inquired about the days since the onset of symptoms and, upon learning that the congressman was no longer contagious, warmly insisted, “Perfect! You’re not contagious anymore; we’ll see you at the Menorah lighting!”
Rabbi Mendel Fogelman, Director of Central Mass Chabad and the American Liaison for Chabad of Israel, had recently returned from a meaningful trip to New York and Washington. During this visit, Rabbi Fogelman played a pivotal role in bringing over 170 immediate family members of hostages to the Ohel of the Lubavitcher Rebbe to pray for the safe and swift return of their family members. A poignant film capturing highlights of this trip was shared by Rabbi Fogelman, moving everyone present.
In an open discussion during the event, Rabbi Fogelman forewarned Congressman McGovern that there were concerns within the community regarding his perceived lack of support for Jewish causes. The Rabbi extended an olive branch, offering the Congressman a platform to address these concerns directly with the community.
Chabad of Central Massachusetts looks forward to continuing its Pinnacle Perspectives series, providing a platform for community members to engage with prominent speakers on a range of compelling topics.

This congressman votes against all measures supporting israel
This is the way to do it – challenge them clearly without p’sharos, but with respect and openness. Yelling and threatening and close-mindedness only lead politicians (or anyone) to double down on their stance and write you off. Beautiful way to go about it.
You are Yelling and threatening this will never work for Jews (other minorities do it and it’s working out fine for them ) but this guy is the proof you can be friend with Chabad and be an hardcore anti Israeli while Israel is in an existential war , an other extreme paradox only found in America
