An interfaith group of clergy from New York City gathered at the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights to protest against the recent hate crimes which have been perpetrated against Jewish people in New York in recent months.
The gathering was organized by NYS Chaplains Task Force and also included members of the NYPD and the New York City Mayor’s Office, who expressed support and solidarity with the Jewish community and protested against the recent antisemitic incidents in the City.
Speakers stressed that love and tolerance must triumph over hate.
Mrs. Devorah Halberstam, whose son Ari Halberstam was a victim of an antisemitic terror attack on the Brooklyn Bridge in 1994 and whose Yartzeit is this Thursday, reminded that tolerance and acceptance must be taught at home. She noted that the way to fight antisemitic and other hatred should begin with the youngest children, while families are seated around the dinner table, and when conversations happen.
Speakers included Rev. Dr. Marcos A. Miranda, US-US Chaplain Task Force, Devorah Halberstam, Jewish Children’s Museum, Bishop Dr. David Olivencia, State of New York Chaplain Federation, Rev. Kim Osorio, US-NYS Chaplain Task Force, Eli Samuel, New York City Clergy Association, Dr. Pura Coniglio, New York City Clergy Association, Pastor David Beidel, Gerald Seabrooks, UCC, Rev. Terry Lee, White House Prayer, Pastor Josias Rodriquez, Bishop Ismael Claudio, UCCAP, Janet Singh, Khalsa Community Patrol, Imam Tahir Kukaj, NYPD Chaplain, NYPD Commanding Officer-Inspector Richie Taylor and Elected Officials.

Enough talk we need action
What is NYPD doing to stop crime?
What are the prosecutors doing to stop crime?
What are the judges doing to stop crime?
What are the “Community Leaders” doing to pressure the government to stop crime?
Take more photos, make more statements, snack some more, and have a bottle of water. That sure does the job!
The two people that are holding back and progress on Bail Reform are the Speakers of NYS Senate Andrea Stewart Cousins and the Speaker of the Assembly Carl Heastie. These two are refusing to roll back the bail Reform inspite of the green
light on crime and all the deaths, murder and mayhem this has caused. They make the laws so please don’t blame NYPD. The governor and mayor have tried to do something but these two won’t budge.
Call and write and write them to express your concerns. If enough people do, it may have an impact.
Again, what is NYPD doing?
In the 90s there were constant foot patrol officers walking in parallel on either side of the street.
There were officers to be seen whose visibility alone was a crime deterrent.
How is it that people are being harassed, robbed, beaten, etc., and police are not right there on the scene chasing and capturing the assailants?
Again, what is NYPD doing to deter crime and to capture criminals?
It starts with NYPD leadership making officers available for a saturated patrol.
Why wasn’t this event publicized so that our community could have shown our support – both for the NYPD (who deeply deserves & appreciates our support at this time) and against the hate crimes (which are getting more vicious by the day) ?? This was not a spontaneous gathering – it was well planned & many sincere people were involved – but it looks like there were just a few random community members who happened to “stumble” on to this standing around on the sidewalk there. What uncaring message does that send to the NYPD, the press and the others… Read more »
Exactly
Hey the pictures looks very nice. They are all in color and the politcians look very concerned. Lets play a game (you and me) and guess what date will be the next set of speeches. I give this about 1 week from today. What date do you guess ……
This means absolutely nothing untill something is done and there is police patrolling crown heights every single day and night. Look at what just happened last night to two young yeshiva boys! That is unacceptable! We are not seeing enough action that is leading to improvement of safety in the community.
I totally agree with you!
Blabbering all day long. Seriously Bro! We need action, as this bla bla blaing was going on, 2 kids were ruthlessly attacked 5 blocks away from this spot a day later.
Eric Adams, how would you like being served punch…..IN THE FACE!
How is this helping our neighborhood exactly? My son was mugged and beat up last night!!!
What is practically being done to stop these low life criminals from bullying our kids and community?? We need to live in safety.
Enough talk, we need 24 HR patrols!
And rescind the current bail reform period
Just another photo op with ZERO benefit to anyone on the ground.
Had this need a black person there’d be riots and protest till “officials” do something this is a beautiful photo op I hope you have the photographer on payroll bc this seems to be a weekly acurance
What a joke actions speaks louder then words enough already
Same thing every time there are attacks. Honestly, it’s actually funny at this point. Unless any of these politicians and activists are actually planning on working on changing laws which make crimes much less worth it to criminals, than this is just PR for the cameras. It’s pathetic and insulting. We know exactly what you are doing. You are doing nothing. If you actually wanted this to be a protest, then you would have publicized it so people could show up. Instead it’s just a self-indulgent play for the cameras. This is a joke. We know it. You know it.… Read more »
This article speaks of these people standing up to violence. While I’ve got no problem with this photo op, this is not standing up to violence. This is standing up to a microphone, podium and camera. When violence occurs, and where it occurs, and what happens after it, is the place to stand up. What happens to a perpetrator of violence? How are police trained? What may or may they not do? What does the system do to perpetrators? What can or should one do when faced with violence?
More pictures and yet more pictures while our children are being attacked on the streets on a daily basis.
Time to go for a demonstration, leaving these “officials” who do absolutely NOTHING behind, so the authorities would know that the community has had it, and that these people don’t represent anyone but their own needs!
To teach karate or other martial arts in our schools..and/or to have our children carry pepper spray and teach them when and how to use it..It’s also time to have the city officials insist that public school children be educated with a curriculum encouraging tolerance..Standing around and talking and photo ops at the JCM will not do it..
What are you doing in behalf of the 16 year old that was beaten up for no reason? You should only see what this child looks like Please help our community before its too late!!! We should have the same police protection inforce daily just as when we have various programs going on during the year!!!
The only way to avoid being a violent crime victim is to walk in groups and legally arm yourselves with weapons for defense. Criminals usually do not commit crimes in front of the police so you will ultimately be your own first responder.
We need to see action , we heard the screams of the boy, how is this helping him how is he going to be able to walk in the streets and not be afraid.
How are parents going to be able to let our kids walk in the street without being afraid.
Have these thugs been caught and if they are caught how will they be punished.
How are the consequences of their actions going to be a reason for these thugs to think twice before they beat up our children!!!
