It was January 2009 during Operation Cast Lead in Israel. Ben S. was huddled in his bunker along with the other members of his elite Golani unit of the Israel Defense Forces.
Suddenly shells bombarded the bunker directly and Ben was severely wounded. His rehabilitation took many years during which Chabad’s Terror Victims Project (CTVP) made the painful journey with him every step of the way as he struggled to regain his life.
He miraculously overcame his injuries and is now able to work and go about his daily life, something that many thought would never, ever happen.
And against all odds, we are thrilled to announce that Ben has gotten married!
Rabbi Menachem Kutner, Director of CTVP, with whom Ben is very close, officiated at the joyful ceremony as Ben married Linor.
There was not a dry eye in the room. Family and friends were beyond overjoyed that this day had come and Ben and Linor could look forward to a wonderful life together.
Ben signed the kesuva using his prosthetic hooked arm. His classmates who attended the wedding were very excited. His friend who was also injured in the same serious incident, told Yedioth Ahronoth: “We were in the same room where the shells were fired. I was somehow lightly and moderately wounded but Ben lost everything in one moment. Over the years he has gotten a good deal back. Now he stands under the canopy and it is so exciting and such a victory.”
And then he said: “Although we are tough Golanis, I have no doubt that everyone will shed tears.”
Rabbi Kutner said this was a wedding of victory. “Since I met Ben in intensive care all those years ago, my heart has been with him through every painful step as he struggled so hard to make a new life. This is a true story of a remarkable comeback and a great success.”

I’m in tears
