The Chosen Business Expo which took place recently highlighted the large and growing business community in the Crown Heights neighborhood.
“Most were not aware of the enormous amount of business opportunity that exists in their own backyard,” said Yehoshua Werde, founder of CHYE. “We hope this event was not only inspiring but a real business generator for those who came. And, we hope it encourages others to support Crown Heights business and to get involved with CHYE’s activities.”
“Networking is the only way to grow,” said attendee, Betzalel Scheinfeld, an accountant and tax strategist at Pro Accounting Corp. “The more events we have like this [in Crown Heights], the better it’s going to be for everybody.”
“I just want to say thank you to Rabbi Werde and everybody else who put this amazing networking event together, said Schneur Mishulovin, founder/CEO of Sunshine Healing Massage Therapy. “This is already the second year [of the Chosen Business Conference] and it’s beautiful to see so many growing businesses and people networking together in a fun and interactive way.”
“It’s good to discover potential partners are in our community that we’d be able to work with,” said Mendy Margolin, CTO of Fox Business Funding. “I’m always looking to improve our business. It’s always good to be aware of what opportunities there are in your own backyard because you never know. [The Chosen Business Conference] is a wonderful opportunity to get to know what resources are available here in Crown Heights. And, I believe it’s definitely important to support those who work in your own community if you’re able to do so.”
“I think Crown Heights Young Entrepreneurs is a great thing,” said Jonathan Terebello. “It brings people in the community together. There’s a lot of people in the community who are doing business, but not always with each other. The networking and the achdus here today will help facilitate more business relationships within the community and reduce the need for having to find talent outside. It’s amazing to witness everyone here helping each other. The best thing you can do is try to help your neighbor, love your neighbor, give your neighbor business, give your neighbor chizuk, and help one another.”
Mendel Blesofsky, co-founder and CTO of ChatForm, had a booth at the conference. “We came to the Chosen Business Conference to network with other local businesses and explore opportunities for collaboration and integration,” he said. “We’re so excited and positively flabbergasted to see the incredible business opportunities that exist here and to get acquainted with so many sophisticated entrepreneurs and business platforms. I think it’s incredibly important to support local Crown Heights businesses. I was so lucky to connect with Rabbi Werde years ago and talk to him about my experiences with coding bootcamp as a graduate of Ohelei Torah. Together, we came up with ways to make the coding field more accessible to yeshiva bochurim and maidelach in the community. I’m so appreciative of the work CHYE does and I’ve been so excited to witness the growth of CHYE over the years.”

CHYE provides the kind of networking, advice, support, and guidance about how to run a business that I was looking for. Before CHYE, nothing like this existed in Crown Heights so I’m very grateful for everything CHYE does. They’ve been very helpful to me and to my business and they’ve helped so many people. Local business is something everybody [in the community] should support.”
Aaron Levertov, CEO of Dark Horse Integration Services said he came to “network and learn more from other businesses and make connections. There is such a wide variety of businesses here in the community and it’s amazing to see everyone come together.”
“There was a broad consensus from many attendees that Crown Heights needs more events like the Chosen Business Conference,” said Rabbi Werde. “CHYE and the Chosen Business Conference encourage people in Crown Heights to patronize local businesses and hire from within the community.
“As the Crown Heights business community grows, it will be interesting to see what new events Crown Heights Young Entrepreneurs has in store.”
This event was created in order to promote communal support for Crown Heights business. Many of the attendees expressed their surprise and admiration that there was so much business growth, opportunities, and innovation going on in the schuna. One often heard attendees exclaim: “Who knew there was so much going on here in Crown Heights?!” as they made their way around the various booths.
