Israel’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Dovid Lau, who is visiting New York this week, made a special visit to Bais Rivkah High School in Crown Heights.
Rabbi Lau, along with his wife, Tzipporah, is visiting various mosdos and individuals in the neighborhood while in town to attend the gala anniversary for Tzivos Hashem on Tuesday night.
Rabbi Lau was greeted by Rabbi Moshe Pinson and Rabbi Yossi Baumgarten, representing the Bais Rivkah Board of Directors.
Rabbi Lau was introduced to the girls by renowned speaker and Bais Rivkah High School teacher Mrs. Miryam Swerdlov, who mentioned that the Rebbe once said that the Lau family would have generations of Rabbonim.
Rabbi Lau spoke words of encouragement to the girls, telling a personal story of when he was a young child and had been called over by his teacher for having gotten into some mischief.
The teacher had asked Rabbi Lau his father’s name and grandfather’s name, each known respected Rabbonim.
The teacher then wrote a zero for each of the names, and then added a 1 before the zeros, saying that Rabbi Lau represents the 1.
“If you do the right thing, and make something of yourself, the 1 will be before the zeros, however, if not, it will remain at the end,” the Rabbi said.
Mrs. Tzipporah Lau spoke to the girls as well, inviting them to visit when they are in Israel.
