“Sounds like radical Islam or radical liberal leftist stuff.” No, it really doesn’t. It sounds like basic survival. The measles are a fatal disease- every person, every Jew, every chassid, needs to beaware. And you really have no idea what the rebbe would say. We’re talking about saving lives here- it’s not a joke.

Oy!
April 4, 2019 7:14 am

And if someone gets the measels than what will be?

April 3, 2019 10:00 pm

You sound ignorant. People should do whatever they can to stop the measles from spreading. You don’t know what the Rebbe would want so don’t pretend you do.

Why don’t you stop being so ignorant and foolish! measles can be a death sentence and people DO die from the measles. measles also cause deafness and RL a host of other illnesses. It is PREVENTABLE!!

Did someone notify Chidon parents of ban before they flew overseas?
April 3, 2019 11:38 am

Parents spent thousands and thousands of dollars flying here with their kids for Chidon from Australia, South Africa, Europe etc. Many of these people don’t have a lot of money but they came to participate in a joyous Torah event with their kids in the Rebbe’s shechuna. Did anyone warn them in advance, that if they’re aware of the dangers of vaccines and choose not to vaccinate, then they’ll be banned from entering once they finally get to NY after hours and hours of flying and time taken off work and thousands spent etc???? Also, how far are they going… Read more »

there are some immune compromized people who cannot get vaccinated for real medical reasons ( not because their mommy read some propoganda on the internet ) . SO stop with your dumb insinuations.

Thank you #23!
April 3, 2019 9:03 am

Yes to 23

Is this what Hashem wants?!?
April 3, 2019 9:00 am

Don’t deny vaccine injury. Some people are not willing to risk it. I can just imagine Hashem sitting on high watching His precious children banning other Jewish children from learning Torah, studying and participating in this wonderful event. So as Chinam at its finest. We need moshiach!

Pitiful
April 3, 2019 8:29 am

So # 22, I’ll assume that you don’t use Dor Yeshorim or other genetic testing to determine compatibility of your children before they date? After all, we have EMUNA, right? We certainly live ina self-righteous era, don’t we????

That organization was established to STOP parents like yourself from suing the companies who produce the vaccinations to avoid causing vaccination shortages.

That’s right. The NVICP pays out money to people who file complaints to stop them from causing vaccination shortages. Think of it as a charity to shut up anti vaxxers like yourself and avoid catastrophic spread of disease.

Sounds like an old debate...
April 3, 2019 7:38 am

A lot of fear, mostly unfounded. Similar to chassidim vs. misnagdim debate where everyone put their 2 cents in and it exploded into a deadly chillul Hashem. Everyone needs to tamp this down a bit. Measles is not a death sentence, but sinas chinam is…on all sides. Ahavas chinam will, in fact, bring moshiach … and complete refuah for all who need it.

Ready
April 3, 2019 7:14 am

There are 37 such families in my school. I will stand at door if half to. About time

#8, not this again...
April 3, 2019 6:50 am

“Effective” isn’t the same as “100% effective.” There still may be a small number of people who will get the disease if they’re exposed to it, even if they were vaccinated.

If you disagree, then tell you what. You’ll agree, I hope, that a Kevlar vest is effective at stopping bullets. So we’ll have you wear one, and start shooting at you. What do you say?

IT IS TOO LATE!!!
April 3, 2019 5:40 am

They should have told the kids about it BEFORE they started, so the kids can decide for themselves if they want to go for it or not.

Safety First!
April 3, 2019 3:46 am

I’d be curious if they’re making sure that no one is recently vaccinated as they don’t know who might be immunocompromised and vaccine package inserts warn to stay away from any at risk individuals for a certain period of time because the disease has been known to spread to vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals for a length of time after vaccination.

Clarification
April 3, 2019 2:00 am

Dear confused, unfortunately that kind of thinking is why measles is making a come back. ‘Everyone else will vaccinate so I don’t need to bother’. Reality check: some people (very few) don’t become immune from vaccines, some people have cancer or other serious illnesses and can’t be immunised, some people are PREGNANT so their babies are not yet immunised, and unfortunately our community seems to have more than 1 who would rather depend on everyone else’s kid being immunised. Which is why we are in this situation. What is most frightening is that too much of the measles comeback is due… Read more »

Answer to #8
April 3, 2019 1:31 am

You can catch measles just by being in a room where a person with measles has been, up to 2 hours after that person is gone.

to 8
April 3, 2019 1:14 am

it’s not so confusing
herd immunity relies on at least 95% of individuals being vaccinated, for years non-vaxxers have relied on people who do vaccinate to protect their unvaxxed kids, which only emphasizes that they do believe in vaccination,
in any case, non-vax rates have dropped to below 95%,
so thank you chidon for being responsilble!

Armbands with yellow stars next?
April 3, 2019 12:53 am

If over $4 billion dollars has been paid out for vaccine injuries and DEATHS by the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, I’m still wondering how vaccines are safe and effective.
“You may choose to look the other way, but you can never say again that you did not know”

Dumbest idea ever!
April 2, 2019 11:31 pm

…and what if your kid stood in line at the local grocery next to the kid who had measles? What happened to Emunah? You do your hishtadlus to – in your opinion – protect your children and leave the rest up to Hashem. Not right to make parents falsify a record in order to include a child that studied for months. (Btw, I don’t live in CH and my children are post Chidon age)

Effectivity of vaccines
April 2, 2019 11:27 pm

it is 93-97 percent effective depending if you had one or two does of the vaccine.

Moreover, babies are not vaccinated against measles (until a year or so IIRC), so we don’t want our babies to catch it.

April 2, 2019 11:23 pm

How many times does this need explaining:

1) some kids cannot be vaccinated or have other immunity issues’
2) no, vaccinations are not foolproof, but greatly reduce the chances.

Backfire
April 2, 2019 11:22 pm

This is all going to backfire against the vaxx-pushers in the end because the truth always comes out, as it will eventually about the deadly vaccines and the Big Pharma agenda. The President of the USA has stated over and over again that vaccines are linked to autism, and Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky Shlit”a who is considered by many the top rabbinic authority in Eretz Yisroel has signed a letter that children who are not vaccinated cannot be kept out of yeshiva.

safe they are a lot. effective they are also but not 100%. we dont our kids going there and check if it was effective or not. better to leave unvax kids at home watching uncle moishy

What about מקוה
April 2, 2019 11:09 pm

Can the doctors advise

good!
April 2, 2019 10:57 pm

GOOD!! Enough is Enough!! How dare these parents endanger other Jews due to their ignorance and stubbornness. This is the antitheses of how Jews behave.

To number 8
April 2, 2019 10:53 pm

Wait, I thought anti-vaxxers have done their “research”? If you had, you would know the answer to that question.

@#8
April 2, 2019 10:49 pm

That’s a really dumb question. It’s called a propaganda plug. But I’ll bite. Not for you but for the unfortunate parents who might be swayed by your garbage. You and all anti-vaccine trolling machines know that vaccines work by producing herd immunity. A small percentage if vaccinated people can still develop the disease, and the greater the exposure, the greater the risk. So if a high risk vaccinated child is exposed to one carrier, they might have a 15% chance of developing the measles (this is a made up number, I haven’t looked up the exact percentage) but if they’re… Read more »

Can't stand inflammatory titles
April 2, 2019 10:23 pm

OT kids who are not vaccinated are banned because that is health Dept protocol if an actual case of measles is found in a particular school.

Kids are probably already coming in for chidon from out of town. It is highly unlikely that they can or should ban unvaccinated kids from other schools at this point.

I feel bad for the kids who are affected by this.

To 8
April 2, 2019 10:18 pm

That’s exactly how it spreads. A kid from Timbuktu has measles, but doesnt know yet, comes, spreads it to the other one kid who isnt vaccinated from Boston. He goes home and brings it to his grandmother and baby sister. Baby sister spreads it to the college student who babysits, who brings it to her campus and spreads it to… etc.
Bad idea.

Not so confusing
April 2, 2019 10:18 pm

To #8

Read the letter again. They aren’t worried about the vaccinated kids, that’s why they are letting them attend. They don’t want the responsibility of having a kid CH”V catch measles at the Chidon which is why they are telling all the kids at risk of catching measles (i.e. the kids who haven’t been vaccinated) to stay home.

Really?
April 2, 2019 10:00 pm

So you’re going to return the money these parents paid for the program and airfare? It’s worth breaking a contract and risk being sued?

GOOD
April 2, 2019 9:58 pm

I AM HAPPY TO HEAR! 🙂

Confused
April 2, 2019 9:52 pm

Wait, if all the kids at the chidon are vaccinated, why are they worried about the 2 or 3 kids not vaccinated? I thought vaccines are safe and effective?

#2 i believe yes they will ask submit immunization forms
April 2, 2019 9:51 pm

As they ask to sign other forms for trips etc
It’s very responsible act not to spread it wide to out of states

cnl
April 2, 2019 9:50 pm

Excellent idea!

And adults?
April 2, 2019 9:45 pm

Are they going to titer all adults?

Dovid
April 2, 2019 9:42 pm

We hope the girls schools will follow. Keeping our girls safe

Good with huge amount of kids present no one wants to take any risk
April 2, 2019 9:38 pm

Better safe then sorry

How do they plan on enforcing this?
April 2, 2019 9:36 pm

They have not asked for immunization records

VERY GOOD
April 2, 2019 9:32 pm

VERY GOOD! we can even forget about the doctors! The rabbonim of the community already sent a letter saying one has to vaccinate. Nothing bad will come out when we listen to the rabonnim,
