Cheder at the Ohel, founded on the principle of Chinuch al Taharas Hakodesh, is renowned for its balance of academic excellence, special programming, and a warm Chassidishe environment. Its small class sizes and individualized attention allow each Talmid to reach his highest potential.
Founded in 5756 (1996) by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shemtov A”H, Cheder at the Ohel has remained steadfast in its mission to provide Chinuch Al Taharas Hakodesh, based on the directives of the Rebbe. This dedication has shaped the Cheder into a beacon of Chassidishe Chinuch for nearly three decades.
From its humble beginnings in a house near the Ohel, the Cheder has grown remarkably, initially expanding into trailers and additional spaces to accommodate an increasing student body.
Over ten years ago, it moved to its current beautiful and spacious location in Valley Stream, Long Island (a 10-minute drive from the Ohel). This facility includes a full-size gym, Shul, auditorium/ballroom, cafeteria, student lounge, library, and a special prize store, with a 97-acre State Park adjacent to it.
As the Cheder’s student body continues to evolve, the school aims to better serve the growing Lubavitch community of Long Island. They are excited to announce a name change that underscores its commitment and focus. With the support of the current Vaad and Rabbi Tuvia Teldon, head Shliach of Long Island, they present the new name: Cheder Menachem of Long Island.
The Cheder continues to honor its rich history and expresses deep appreciation for its founders, leaders, and supporters, whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for this remarkable school.
Their goal is to educate and nurture true Chassidim of the Rebbe, to inspire and empower the Talmidim to reach personal excellence, with a love for learning and much confidence.
Parents from diverse areas, including Crown Heights, Queens, Five Towns, and the greater Long Island area, have found the school transformative. As one parent from East Flatbush remarked, “Our son has blossomed incredibly. The environment created by the Hanhola and staff is very Chassidish and sincere.”
With the Rebbe’s Brochos, they eagerly anticipate achieving new heights and greater growth for Cheder Menachem of Long Island.
