Seeing the Shuls close one after another got Chazzan Shlomie Rabin thinking. How can people experience the flavor of Shabbos if we are not going to Shul?
He was already working on a double album of his Davening for Friday night and Shabbos day. Originally slated for completion over the summer, Rabin decided to publish a current version of the Friday night part so that it can be listened to during this crisis.
“I was thinking, what can I do to make a difference right now? It was like that moment that happened before I decided to go to Poway for Shabbos after the shooting,” said Rabin.
The recording features both songs and Nussach and is geared towards leading in a “Chabad House”. Not only will it help people get into the mood of Shabbos, it will also serve as a great tool to learn how to lead.
While the plan was to sell the album, the Friday night davening and Kiddush is being put on youtube for free listening. The album is being produced by Sound Heights Records.
“Shlomie asked me to put together a bounced track so it would be ready for this listening to before this Shabbos, so we made a single track for the entire Friday night album,” said Yisroel Aryeh Gootblatt, the studio director.
“It’s easy listening, pleasant and intimate just like you need after a long work week, perfect for Friday,” said Yoni Weiss of Design In Brooklyn who oversaw the album graphic.
Called “Second Soul” for the extra Neshama we are gifted each Shabbos, the album will feature Shabbos day Davening as well as Havdala and will be available in a physical version and on streaming platforms.
