Chaya Sofer, a beloved wife, mother, and midwife who helped thousands of Chabad mothers in Israel, passed away on Thursday, 21 Sivan, 5784.
She was 44 and passed away after battling a terrible illness.
Chaya (nee Jurkowicz), a resident of Lod, Israel, brought light and love into the world through her care for others. A devoted midwife, she helped bring many babies into the world with love and patience.
Even while battling a difficult illness, she inspired many with her Emunah and Bitachon in Hashem, always focusing on the positive and without complaint. Despite her suffering, she constantly cared for the well-being of those around her. Even while facing terrible challenges, Chaya focused on the positive. When asked how she was doing, she would reply, “better today than yesterday.”
For the past few years, she resided with her family in Crown Heights.
She is survived by her husband Shmulik, and children, Liba, Shira, and Mushka.
She is also survived by her parents, the Rov of the Chabad community in Lod, Israel, Rabbi Boruch Boaz and Rasya Jurkowicz, her in-laws, Rabbi Yechezkel and Sarah Sofer of Jerusalem, Israel, and her grandmother, Mrs. Etya Jurkowicz from Lod, Israel.
She is also survived by her siblings, Lubeleh Lipsker, Moscow; Shmulik Jurkowicz, Crown Heights; Devorah Leah Unger, Jerusalem; Levi Jurkowicz, Crown Heights; Cherna Goldberg, Moscow; Nochum Jurkowicz, Ramla, Israel; Mali Jurkowicz, Lod; Chana Eisenbach, Paphos, Cyprus; Mussie Segal, Mishmar Dovid, Israel; Geula Beitz, Limassol, Cyprus; Beshe Jurkowicz, Lod; Goldy Labkowski, Maccabim-Reut, Israel; and Basya Luria, Lod, Israel.
The Levaya will take place on Friday, passing by 770 at 1 PM, and burial will take place Sunday night at the Cemetery in Lod, Israel.
