One hundred eighty artists submitted their masterpieces to the Chassidus in Color art contest. Now, the work of sixty finalists will be on exhibition when the Maor Art Gallery—on 664 Sterling Place—opens at 7 pm, on April 29, 1 Iyar, for the opening night of Chassidus in Color’s submissions gallery.
Art enthusiasts, proud friends and family, and the community at large will gather to view, comment on, and even purchase the work of the talented young artists who participated in the art contest. Opening night will feature light refreshments and words from Yitzchok Moully.
For three weeks after opening night, until Chassidus in Color’s finale event at the Jewish Children’s Museum on May 18, 20 Iyar, the sixty geulah-themed and chassidus-based paintings will be exhibited at the Betzalel Art Gallery—on 567 Empire—and the Maor Art Gallery.
Renowned Chabad artist Michoel Muchnik, who, alongside a prestigious slate of fellow artists, will visit the galleries to carefully review the sixty finalists and identify the contest’s winners, says the contest has given artists a chance to “challenge themselves, jump to the next level, and experience real artistic growth.”
For participating artists, like Naomi Estrin (17, Lauderhill, FL), submitting a piece pushed them to engage deeply and creatively with chassidus. “Chassidus can seem abstract,” she says, “putting it into a piece of art helped me visualize it through a wider lens, making it more practical.”
The Chassidus in Color Art Contest is a project of Evocative Jewish Art in partnership with Rabbi Simon Jacobson’s MyLife Chassidus Applied and COLlive.
