Artwork title- Return of the Moon
“Return of the Moon,” portrays a massive full moon rising over Jerusalem, superimposed over the Beis Hamikdash. The moon symbolizes the Jewish people’s journey through exile, reflecting hester panim—the concealment of G-d’s presence—and their spiritual decline. The Lubavitcher Rebbe explains that just as the mitzvah of Kiddush HaChodesh, given in Egypt, marked the Jewish people’s beginning, so too does the moon’s cycle reflect their phases of darkness and renewal, culminating in full illumination in the Messianic era. As the moon returns to full brilliance, the Beis Hamikdash glows in harmony, embodying redemption and divine restoration. Painted in soft greens and golds with an abstract design, the details emerge upon a second look, inviting deeper reflection.
(inspired by The Moon’s Lost Light by Devorah Fastag, the teachings of Tanya (Iggeret HaKodesh, Epistle 20) and the Lubavitcher Rebbe (Likkutei Sichot, Vol. 11, p. 1-11)
