The excitement and momentum of the second annual Chassidus in Color competition was felt around the world as submissions poured in from the United States, Israel, Chile, England and Argentina, just to name a few.
A select work of sixty finalists were curated at the beautiful Maor Gallery in Prospect Heights. Viewers and artists are invited to comment, vote, and purchase artwork using a QR code placed near each piece.
The Opening Night Event began with a letter from the Rebbe addressing artists, “It is the duty of the Jew to recognize that his creativity and special talents were bestowed upon him by G-d.” Furthermore, the Rebbe writes, “Surely, the proper medium of expression will be found that is consonant with the Torah, and is therefore good, both for the artist as well as for humanity at large.”
The goal and purpose of the competition was twofold. It aimed to motivate and promote more Jewish art. Most importantly, to inspire artist who are both experienced and beginners to turn to Torah and Chassidus and allow it to inform their work. The Rebbe mentioned to artist Baruch Nachshon on many occasions that a Jewish artist has a responsibility to elevate the world through their art. Artist, Ariel Louis spoke at the event. He shared about his art journey and how Chassidus and connecting to the Rebbe really propelled him forward.
Art, of any medium, has a way of awakening something that is intrinsically within us. We hope viewers walk away from the show feeling inspired and invigorated by Chassidus in Color.
As the expert panel of judges—Rabbi Yossi Paltiel, Michoel Muchnik, Rabbi Mendel Wolf, Mush Kanner, Estee Klein, and Esther Maxwell—begin the judging process, anticipation continues to build for the Evening of Art on May 18th at the Jewish Children’s Museum. That night, six winners of the Second Edition contest will be revealed in celebration of creativity and community. Until then, explore Geula artworks at EvocativeJewishArt.com, where you can discover pieces that resonate with you, leave a comment, cast your vote, or even bring a work of art into your own home.
