“Being back at work feels great,” says Yosel Tiefenbrun, an ordained Chassidic rabbi who is the owner and CEO of Tiefenbrun NYC, a bespoke tailoring house in Williamsburg.
Tiefenbrun recently reopened his shop for the first time since the Covid-19 shutdown to create a stylish line of face masks that the public is required to wear outdoors to avoid spreading coronavirus.
“I never thought I’d be working on a sample mask that would fit everyone from the bearded man to the glasses wearers but here I am!” he said as he was designing options.
He got to work when he couldn’t find a mask that would sit comfortably on his flowing Chassidic beard. So he created a pattern specifically for those with beards so that it sits comfortably without pushing down.
The masks are hand constructed from high-quality Italian cotton fabric and are said to be comfortable and functional.
“Our masks are great for glasses wearers; glasses sit comfortably and they decrease the fogging of glasses by 85%,” COLllive.com was told. “This mask also has a pocket to allow you to add any type of filter you choose.”
“My team and I are back at work making masks for the time being to support our local community, keep our business going and our craftsmanship alive,” Tiefenbrun said.
He added that he was glad he was able to pay his employees and that he will donate 10% of proceeds to a local charity (such as Hatzalah, @Boost4thebrave, and Aamudim) that are instrumental during the pandemic.
Comedian and filmmaker Mendy Pellin was one of the first to order. “Finally!! A beard-friendly luxury Shabbos mask!” he tweeted with a selfie with Tiefenbrun.
