On Sunday, the first night of Chanukah, Chabad of Mineola hosted its annual Chanukah Telethon. This Telethon is one of the most celebrated Long Island Jewish events of the year with thousands of Jews from all walks of life tuning in live on www.chanukahtelethon.com
Rabbi Anchelle Perl has been spearheading this Telethon for all these years and he is the energetic force behind this huge Kiddush HaShem. The show is co-hosted by celebrity news anchor Jay Oliver on LI News Radio and the well-known financial services industry leader, Kive Strickoff.
The Chanukah Telethon raises vital funds in support of people who fall between the cracks. The show is also famous for its dancing rabbis, who join hands and dance the hora every time a new figure is displayed on the tote board.
Two important campaigns with calls for action were presented; how to celebrate one’s Jewish birthday in the spirit of Hakhel; and the launching of the “Guide to Caring for the Caregiver”, providing a better understanding and appreciation of the challenges faced by Caregivers of elderly persons in times of need.
“When the going gets tough, the light keeps growing,” Rabbi Perl said. This year the audience was on the edge of their seats, as they watched, unfolding in the live TV studio, the full great Jewish marriage ceremony of Ariel Gornizky and Javiar Sztabzyb.
