Songwriter Chananya Rotenberg unveils “War on Gravity,” a deeply moving and thought-provoking album that explores the timeless inner battle every person faces in their quest to grow.
Known for his emotionally resonant compositions such as Journey at Sea and My Little Town, featured on Journeys 5, produced by his father Abie Rotenberg, Chananya now steps forward with his own debut album. With War on Gravity, he crafts an immersive musical experience that blends powerful messages and storytelling with rich melodies.
The album features 11 brand-new songs and an extraordinary lineup of vocalists, including Benny Friedman, Shulem Lemmer, Yanky Lemmer, Baruch Levine, Abie Rotenberg, Eli Schwebel, Moshe Tischler, Tali Yess, Yoni Z, as well as Chananya himself. The album also features expressive and sophisticated musical arrangements by Nochum Levitan.
At the heart of the album lies a profound concept: Gravity represents the Yetzer — the force that drags us downward, the weight that resists every attempt to rise. Rabbeinu Bachya, in Chovos HaLevavos, calls this lifelong struggle the Milchama Gedolah, the “great war” of the soul. Our War on Gravity is the fight to break free of that downward force and reclaim the upward motion we were created for.
Through the writing and production of these songs, Rotenberg hopes to uncover sparks of inspiration and strength.
“Music has a unique ability to pierce the soul, reaching places words alone cannot. If these songs can bring a sense of elevation, a breath of encouragement, or even a fleeting moment of uplift,” Rotenberg says, “then they will have fulfilled their purpose — supporting each listener in their own War on Gravity.”
Your journey begins now. Take a breath, turn inward, aim upward and soar.
War on Gravity is now available on all streaming platforms and wherever Jewish music is sold.
