Opening its doors on the 20th of Menachem Av; Chabad Seminary Austria, under the leadership of Rabbi Zalman and Blumi Raskin, began its inaugural year.
The energetic group of students started the year with an uplifted atmosphere of personal growth, passionate learning and strengthening their hiskashrus to the Rebbe.
The seminary’s courses began enthusiastically as well. The courses cover various subjects taught by successful shluchim and mechanchim from Vienna and surrounding communities, with the characteristic focus of CSA to apply the studies to everyday life.
Sundays and Wednesdays have been a highlight for many of the students. The seminary travels bi-weekly for a full-day program in Vienna. The program in Vienna includes classes by veteran lecturers and hands-on shlichus work. The seminary students work with university students, teenagers, young women, and mommy-and-me groups.
Another piece that stands out at CSA is the warm, chassidishe, family-like atmosphere fostered by the dedicated dorm counselors, Dina Korol and Sarale Weinstein. Every possible moment, they are found leading special night programs, inspiring farbrengens, or simply creating meaningful chassidishe experiences.
For Rosh Hashana, the seminary joined Vienna’s largest chabad house and took part in welcoming hundreds of guests who were visiting from around the world. The girls also joined meals with local anash families and shluchim, gaining a first-hand perspective of the life of shluchim.
An extra large sukkah was built on campus for the seminary to host visiting families who joined the students for Sukkos. The families were greatly inspired. Particularly by the students’ leadership in the meals when sharing divrei Torah.
The seminary’s spiritual director and the head of Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim in Vienna, Rabbi Chaim Fieldsteel, along with his family, also celebrated with the students. The Yomtov was filled with workshops, early morning chassidus and inspiring farbrengens. It was followed by a long-awaited trip to Salzburg, a leading tourist destination in Austria.
This coming Shabbos, the seminary, will iy”h visit Budapest, the capital of Hungary, as part of its mission to give the students a close-up experience of shlichus across different communities.
