Chabad working with Emergency Services in Australian Bushfire relief efforts
Chabad is at the forefront of the Jewish community’s efforts to assist the victims of the devastating bushfires in the state of Victoria. These are the worst bushfires in Australian history, claiming more than 200 lives.
Some of the areas affected are well known to Melbourne’s vibrant Jewish community, particularly the town of Marysville which hosted Pesach vacations.
Hundreds of portions of food parcels and biscuits have been sent to emergency services personnel in the front line. They were prepared in Our Big Kitchen, at the Yeshiva Centre in Bondi, Chabad NSW Headquarters.
The director of Our Big Kitchen, Rabbi Dovid Slavin, is coordinating these efforts with the Emergency Services. Rabbi Slavin is the Chaplain for the NSW Ambulance Service. Another Yeshiva Rabbi, Elimelech Levy, is the Chaplain to the State Emergency Services.
Rabbi Pinchus Feldman, Head Rabbi of Chabad NSW and Dean and Spiritual Leader of the Yeshiva Centre said “This is the essence of our mission: to help all in need , specifically in times of crisis, irrespective of race, colour and creed.
Our Big Kitchen also recently helped in the aftermath of the Mumbai Massacre by sending food packages.
A major community cook-in to assist with the bushfire response is planned for Thursday 19 February at Our Big Kitchen.

I am a 40 yr old man, desperate, hungry, broke, and unforunately a member of this so-called sydney coomunity. Noone helps me. Is there a segula for being helped by the big kitchen? do you have to have your house burn down first?
I believe that anything Dudi Slavin is involved in is a real success. he’s a go-getter (happens to love the recognition too…)
go for it dudi. ‘vert nisht nispoel fun kainer” !!!
Hey Dudi,
Nice to see you. i hear you are doing an outstanding job. woldn’t think otherwise. good luck and keep up the great work. you look great!
Mate, Do you come from Australia? Do you have a CLUE about what is going on in country Victoria with regards to the bushfires? Obviously not: “So I don’t believe this food would actually get anywhere to the victims. This is clearly a publicity stunt and nothing more.” Rubbish – do you think the truck delivering the food gets hijacked or something? Where did you think the food would go if it doesn’t go to the victims? Who cares if the fires aren’t affecting Sydney – many people in NSW have been donating to the relief effort and US firecrews… Read more »
This DISEASE that you have, is it hereditary ?
ידים ידי עשו
I THINK I SPELLED עשו RIGHT
The bushfires are not even near Sydney!
So I don’t believe this food would actually get anywhere to the victims. This is clearly a publicity stunt and nothing more.
It should also be noted that the red cross has asked people to stop sending goods and food cause they have too much. Everyone here in Australia knows that this Big kitchen is a big stunt. All they do is have openings to invite politicians and use it for photo ops.
I trust the readers of this site not to be so naive and really see what is going in.
“Chabad is at the forefront”?? I don’t think so.
While I am sure that the Yeshivah in Sydney is doing its bit to collect food etc for the hundreds of homeless victims but numerous Melbourne organisations have been in action since day one. Hatzolah and Jewish Aid Australia – both wonderful organisations – are working tirelessly to raise money and collect goods.
It is sad that the Sydney Yeshivah has to use this tragedy as a publicity stunt.
Its not decease, its disease. Decease means DEAD! There is a known story of bochurim on Merkos Shlichus that asked to meet Mr. So and So, they were told he was deceased and they replied “Oh, when will he be back” !!!
This decease you have, is it hereditary?
Hey,
I remember when there were shluchim-bochurim that were asked to be security by the Rabbi’s house. There was lots of funny stuff going on then…..

yes, chabad is a relief fund like the red cross, only we do it out of pure unconditional love for fellow man… see end of chapter 1 Likkutei Amarim.
it is a real kidush hashem
#1…you don’t make sense. What are you trying to say?
what about the jews in sydney who need food?? is chabad’s mission to take care of natural disasters have we become a relief fund like the red cross? what about our own that need help there are plenty of people in sydney who could benefit from this?
looking good dudi!!
they are all over the media. how they have time to take pictures all over the world is something we must have an answer to
