On Sunday, June 23 , 2013, 15 Tammuz 5773, the Chevron fund sponsored an amazing and inspiring event at the Azaraf home in the beautiful suburb of Highland Park, Illinois.
The program, titled “Fighting International Terror and Defeating it; Insider analysis and solutions on the world-wide battle against terror,” featured several different presentations.
The program consisted of a light buffet followed by a welcoming speech by the host, Yossi Azaraf. It continued with an address to the audience by the president of the Chabad shul of Highland Park, Mr. Mort Skolnik. Then, a touching speech was given by Aliza Lichtenfeld.
Aliza, introduced as a 17-year-old Chabad representative of Highland Park, spoke about her personal experience in Chevron when she was just 14 years old.
“We all gathered here to support the Jewish community of Chevron, M’oz u’l’tamid,” said Aliza. “And we must never let Chevron lose its Jewish identity again. We need to support the people emotionally, spiritually, and financially. Because if not us, then who will?”
Aliza continued to tell about her experience in Chevron, where she volunteered at the preschool, assisted the Shluchim and their children, and stayed by herself in a girls’ dormitory apartment.
This address was followed by Jorde Nathan speaking about his involvement helping out the IDF. Then, retired colonel Erez Winner spoke about his experiences as a general in the Israeli army. The presentations were completed with closing remarks by Rabbi Simcha Hochbaum, director of Chevron Fund Tours, and Rabbi Daniel Rosenstein, executive director of Chevron Fund.
“It was spectacular to see such a great event take place in Highland Park,” remarked a guest. “It was extremely interesting to hear a retired general speak, and Aliza’s speech was very inspirational.”
