A terrorist attempted to attack a residential building in the southern Israeli city of Kiryat Gat with a gun he grabbed from a soldier on Wednesday, police reported.
Emergency agencies responded to Lachish Blvd. in Kiryat Gat after reports that a soldier was stabbed as a terrorist grabbed his rifle as he got off a bus.
The terrorist was then seen running into a 7-story residential building with the soldier’s rifle, Lubavitcher Yaakov Singaui told COL in Israel.
“My son had just returned home from Yeshiva, and was standing by the window of our fourth floor apartment when he saw the terrorist run into our building with the rifle,” Singaui said.
The 10-year-old immediately ran to the door and locked it, while calling to his father for help, his father reported. The two barricaded the door with couches and tables to prevent him from entering their apartment.
“Looking through the peephole, we could see him go past our door with the rifle,” Singaui said.
Singaui said he called the police and directed them to which building the terrorist was hiding in.
Magen David Adom reported that the terrorist attempted to fire but there was no magazine in the gun he grabbed from the soldier. He was shot dead on the scene by police.
The terrorist was later identified as 18-year-old Amjad al Jundi, from the town of Yata near Hebron.
In light of the security crisis in Israel, it is reported that a planned joint security summit between Israel and Germany has been canceled by Israel as PM Netanyahu is not leaving the country.
