A record amount of 45,403 lines of Torah – Mishnayos, Tanya, Siddur and Yediyos Kloliyos – were learned as part of the Camp Gan Israel Florida’s Mishnayos Be’Al Peh program; camp’s annual gift to the Rebbe.
This summer’s achievements were in the true spirit of Ma’alin BaKodesh – rising in areas of holiness – as camp set new records in 4 out of 6 areas. Camp-wide achievements include: 5 full Mesechtos, 119 Perakim Mishnayos, 1,330 Mishnas, 43 Perakim Tanya & 5,683 lines of Tanya.
Additionally, campers were tested on Yediyos Klolios (general Torah knowledge) from its expanded “MBP Handbook”, (the original version courtesy of Rabbi Sholom Heidingsfeld of Cheder Menachem – Los Angeles, CA). This allowed all campers, regardless of previous knowledge, background or memorization skills, to successfully participate in the program and train their skills at memorization.
As in the past, parents were continually updated of their children’s progress throughout the summer via the camp’s MBP website and personalized emails. The database and website are courtesy of Rabbi Dovid Zirkind of baalpeh.org.
Campers were evaluated at the beginning of the program and assigned a level from which they could succeed. The result was, for the 7th straight year, each and every camper in camp was successful tested on a respectable amount of Torah (i.e. at least one yellow).
As always, a beautiful Seforim catalog was produced at the onset of the summer. Browsing through its 16 pages of seforim and their prices, campers set themselves a goal; an amount of MBP they planned to learn throughout the summer (many even surpassed those goals!) Towards the end of the summer campers placed their orders for seforim of their choice.
On the final Friday of camp, campers and staff gathered for its 11th Annual Mishnayos Be’Al Peh Award Ceremony. A video was played, showing the Rebbe’s appreciation for such gifts from his Chassidim, followed by the announcement of the summer’s aforementioned accomplishments.
The top 3 campers with the highest accomplishments were then honored:
1st Place: Yisroel Sa’adia Doch of Shiur Gimmel, who received a personal set of Mishnayos Kehati, Set of the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch, Torah Ohr and paperback volume of Mishnayos.
2nd Place: Yosef Y. Gansburg of Shiur Tes who received the entire set of Sefer HaSichos 5748 – 5752 and the entire set of the Rebbe’s Sefer HaMa’amarim Melukat.
3rd place: Zalman Weiss of Shiur Gimmel who receive the entire set of the Little Midrash Says and a Leatherette Siddur with zipped casing.
Each camper was then called up to receive his seforim. Camp staff and administration joined in to pay tribute to the children’s efforts. A simultaneous multimedia presentation was played as each camper was called up, displaying the campers’ picture, points, major learning achievements and seforim they were receiving.
The MBP program, including the seforim purchased was graciously sponsored by several individuals, including Cong. Anshei Lubavitch of Miami Florida (under the guidance of Rabbi Yitzchok Meir Teitelbaum and Rabbi Dovid Schapiro) and Maman Family.
Always looking to help others in need, campers dedicated all Torah that was learned the final Shabbos of camp as well as the following day during their rest period for the Refuah Sheleima of Chaim Shneur Zalman HaKoehen ben Chana Ma’ala.
The administration of Camp Gan Israel Florida, under the leadership of Rabbi Yossi Biston and Rabbi Yossi Goldblatt as well as the entire camp staff wish all campers continued success in their limudim. It is their hope that the campers’ accomplishments and achievements continue into the school year, give much nachas to the Rebbe and as explained in the Rebbe’s Sichos, bring about the revelation of Moshiach Now!
Let’s go yosef gansburg!! May you continue successfully in your learning and bring moshie he now!!
I want to thank Rabbis Biston and Goldblatt for yet another wonderful summer. The kids came home came home with smiles from ear to ear. Their Rebbe albums were complete. We even sit with them every night and talk about what’s written in the back. The seforim they received from the Mishnayos contest are proudly sitting next to their beds and both have found a newfound enthusiasm for davening (they sing me this tune they learned in camp when finishing shema before they go to bed!) Thank you to all the staff for going that extra mile. Although you don’t ever… Read more »
