Back due to popular demand, Camp Gan Israel of Detroit is re-launching its traveling camp for teens this summer, for girls completing 9th Grade. Preparations are underway for a one of a kind summer experience.
The program is based out of the Camp Gan Israel campsite in Kalkaska, Michigan. Campers will be traveling throughout scenic Northern Michigan, enjoying the beautiful sights in the area, and staying in various resorts.
The camp is an opportunity for girls who are looking for a wholesome summer of meaning and fun merged together. The intent is to give campers VIP access to people who have dedicated their life to Shlichus. Through meeting various shluchim and hearing a little bit of each of their lives, the girls will gain a real understanding of day to day shlichus and understand why shluchim do what they do. They will meet people who will inspire, teach and ultimately instill a passion for this unique mission the Rebbe entrusted us with.
Former campers have shared their experience at the Camp and have said that it was a summer they will never forget.
Sarale Finkelman said, “I really enjoyed bonding with friends over the long bus rides, and all the fun trips we went on. Was really inspiring to travel with shluchos who took the time to join us and talk to us.”
Sterny Gershovitz said, “Throughout the weeks, we had a shliach or shlucha including Rabbi Shais Taub who joined us. They would travel with us, farbreng with us, and teach us chassidus before Davening at beautiful scenic views. The atmosphere, traveling on busses with everyone Beachdus, the learning, the breathtaking scenic national parks, and visiting chabad houses along the way, DTC is surely the place for a Teen summer experience!”
Mrs. Dobie Thaler – a shlucha who previously joined the program said, “I joined Detroit Travel camp two summers ago for a few days and was blown away by the Chayus and Chassidishkeit of the girls and camp. The program was great bgashmius and bruchnius; a great mix of travel and fun incorporated with learning and farbrengens. I’d definitely recommend it.”
Campers will also be enjoying outdoor sports and trips in the area, and will be returning to the campgrounds every few days.
Accompanying the camp will be a team of dedicated staff members headed by director Sara Dubinsky – as well as different shluchim alternating during the trip. The Shluchim will be providing inspiration, shluchos learning experiences and Farbrengens.
Besides touring the beautiful upper peninsula, various islands and delving into loads of adventures, campers will have a hands-on experience on what it’s like being on Shlichus in these areas, guided by the shluchim who are accompanying the trip.
Trips include scenic hiking, kayaking through picture rocks, water activities in Mackinaw Island, horseback riding in Marquette, memorable Shabbatons, and much more. It is sure to be a summer to remember!
We will only be taking one bus full of girls.
Camp dates are August 2- 22.
